About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 07:00 - 19:00 Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Active RN License Certifications: ACLS, BLS Must-Have: - Stepdown experience - Telemetry experience Description: Primary patient population includes cardiovascular surgery and vascular surgery. Patients may undergo open heart surgery such as CABG, AVR, MVR, and TAVR. Thoracic lung surgery procedures include lobectomy and thoracotomy. We also manage cases of esophagogastrectomy, AAA (open and endovascular), fem-pop bypass, and carotid endarterectomies. The unit also receives overflow medical cardiology patients with diagnoses of heart failure, DKA, chest pain, sepsis, and heart block. The unit has 40 cardiac surgery stepdown beds. There are approximately 100 staff members. Staffing includes 1 charge RN, 13 RNs, and 4 PCTs on day and night shifts. Patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:5. Patient-to-PCT ratio is 1:13. Common equipment includes Baxter IV pumps, CADD epidural pumps, and various lifts. The electronic medical record system used is Cerner. Candidates with prior CV surgery and vascular surgery experience will be prioritized. Typical procedures performed include epidural management, chest tube management, tube feedings, and cardiac medication management. Ideal candidates should be team players, enjoy fast-paced environments, and be flexible with scheduling. Floating may occur to other stepdown or medical-surgical units. Weekend requirements include a minimum of 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period. Flexible to work holidays is expected.
