Job Description

Forklift Driver

Steel service center with plant on south side of Chicago seeks outstanding and experienced forklift drivers. Candidates with at least two years of sit down forklift experience preferred. Ideal candidate will have experience handling steel coils and skids of metal sheets.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the supervisor, the forklift driver will operate the fork truck to move material within the plant and load and unload trucks.

Responsibilities:

Ensure that fork truck is in good working order with daily pre-shift inspections; Report all equipment malfunctions to manager and/or maintenance immediately.
Maintaining safe work environment by watching out for foot traffic; following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations
Accurately and promptly complete paperwork including logs and new location sheets
Prompt, daily attendance
Sweeping and cleaning up work area as needed
Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

Two years forklift operating experience preferred. OSHA forklift certification is a plus.
Regularly lift up to 50 pounds, including pallets and fuel tanks for forklift
Basic math, tape measure and micrometer skills required
Must be able to physically operate forklift equipment (climb up and down into cab, twist torso for 360 degree visibility, use arms to operate controls, etc.).
Successfully pass a pre-placement physical, pre-placement drug screening and employment verification
Excellent work attendance record, ability to report to work as scheduled and flexibility to work overtime as assigned.
