Job Description
1. Job Summary
The Health Informatics Specialist III is an experienced informatics nurse and internal consultant who partners with Clinical, Business, and Digital & Technology Services (DTS) teams to support the successful design, implementation, adoption, and interoperability of clinical and non-clinical information systems across the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) enterprise.
This role is directly engaged in enterprise, capital, and operational projects. Using process improvement, change management, and clinical informatics methodologies, the Health Informatics Specialist III identifies and implements improvement opportunities to reduce harm and risk, optimize workflows and care delivery, and evaluate the effectiveness of integrated technologies.
The position requires expertise in telehealth implementation, remote patient monitoring, clinical workflow redesign, and healthcare operations, along with the ability to facilitate stakeholder engagement, support system implementation, and promote sustainable adoption of digital health solutions.
A key responsibility is capability transfer : ensuring that knowledge and expertise are shared across the Enterprise Health Informatics (EHI) team and internal stakeholders so that no single consultant becomes the sole resource for virtual care or their assigned area of responsibility.
2. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Leadership and Stakeholder Engagement- Serve as a liaison between Digital & Technology Services and nursing, providers, allied health professionals, and non-clinical end users.
- Develop and maintain effective partnerships with clinical and operational leadership.

- Apply strong critical-thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills to address complex clinical and operational challenges.
- Lead unit-level core teams and subteams supporting operational initiatives and system implementations.
- Consult with individuals and groups to define healthcare information needs and identify approaches for implementing, utilizing, and modifying DTS solutions and data structures.
- Collaborate with enterprise-wide governance bodies and unit-level Nursing Shared Governance.
- Assess the impact of digital technology solutions on clinical practice, education, business processes, and research.
- Communicate with key stakeholders, sponsors, and internal customers through presentations, project updates, and structured feedback sessions.
- Serve as a preceptor for graduate informatics students.
- Support clinical communication and provide guidance on clinical workflows during downtime events and electronic health record (EHR) reconciliation.
- Apply knowledge of system life cycles and established implementation frameworks for developing, reviewing, approving, and disseminating changes to clinical and non-clinical digital technology services.
- Operationalize change using quality improvement methodologies and standardized processes aligned with current evidence, organizational quality initiatives, regulatory requirements, and billing compliance.
- Develop risk-benefit matrices to evaluate alternative solutions and support clinical and operational decision-making.
- Evaluate the impact of system changes and promote adoption across the enterprise in collaboration with education and communications teams.
- Partner with clinical stakeholders to identify problems and document current-state and future-state workflows and requirements.
- Assist with project planning, operational testing, and implementation validation.
- Conduct gap analyses and collaborate with stakeholders to identify solutions, close workflow gaps, and mitigate implementation risks.
- Serve as a project consultant for the design and implementation of complex DTS process improvement initiatives.
- Assess and document current-state workflows, gather requirements, and define future-state processes.
- Develop workflow recommendations that align operational needs with technology capabilities.
- Analyze gaps between current-state workflows, future-state requirements, and the software being implemented.
- Collaborate with other Epic modules to ensure that workflow dependencies and integration points are addressed.
- Liaise between Solution Architects (SAs), clinical teams, and business stakeholders to facilitate effective communication and solution design.
- Track project progress, deliverables, dependencies, and implementation activities.
- Demonstrate an understanding of data management and data quality standards.
- Support the integration of data, information, and knowledge into decision-support and business intelligence tools, including data warehousing.
- Develop auditing and review processes to evaluate project outcomes and ensure deliverables meet established objectives.
- Participate in Epic vendor visits and follow-up activities.
- Support nursing research and assist clinical nurses in applying research findings and evidence-based practice.
- Develop training materials and provide ongoing education and support for clinical digital technology services.
- Participate in scholarly activities, including publications and presentations at national conferences through lectures, abstracts, or posters.
- Mentor EHI team members and strengthen internal informatics capabilities.
- Develop reusable templates, standardized workflows, and implementation resources.
- Document lessons learned, best practices, and recommendations for future projects.
- Train internal resources to support sustainable operations, independent problem-solving, and long-term technology adoption.
- Ensure that knowledge and expertise are distributed across the team rather than concentrated in a single individual.
The Health Informatics Specialist III will support the assessment, design, implementation, optimization, and strategic development of virtual care capabilities across the enterprise.
A. Strategic Responsibilities- Conduct current-state assessments of virtual care services and workflows.
- Design future-state clinical and operational workflows.
- Contribute to virtual care roadmap development.
