Job Description

The Sanitation Worker (Sanitizer Associate) maintains all plant surfaces and equipment in a clean, sanitary condition throughout the overnight shift. This role follows Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP) under the guidance of the sanitation and quality assurance teams, supporting food safety programs and regulatory requirements. The position involves working with cleaning equipment, chemicals, and food manufacturing processes to ensure a safe and hygienic production environment.

3rd shift - 10pm to 6:30am (Must be ok with OT)

Responsibilities

• Maintain all plant surfaces, equipment, restrooms, break rooms, and trash areas in a clean and sanitary condition throughout the shift.
• Execute GMP and SSOP procedures in accordance with internal quality guidelines and applicable food safety requirements.
• Support USDA-related pre-operational inspections, allergen controls, and traceability activities as directed by quality assurance.
• Handle and secure cleaning chemicals properly, following all safety and usage instructions.
• Follow Lock-out/Tag-out and Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) safety procedures when working with or around equipment.
• Complete sanitation logs, pest control records, and other required documentation accurately and on time.
• Prevent cross-contamination and water damage by following proper cleaning and sanitation techniques.
• Lead by example in uniform, hygiene, and safety compliance, consistently following GMP guidelines such as smock, hair net, and appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Assist in water conservation efforts and prepare equipment for production as needed.
• Report equipment malfunctions, missing parts, and safety concerns promptly to the appropriate personnel.
• Use cleaning equipment and high-pressure hoses safely and effectively to meet sanitation standards.
• Read and complete sanitation records and cleaning schedules in line with quality assurance guidelines.
• Adapt to shift changes and evolving production needs while maintaining sanitation standards.
• Make sound decisions during cleaning activities, manage time efficiently, and use equipment properly.
• Work closely with food products while maintaining strict food safety and hygiene practices.
• Communicate clearly with team members and supervisors to coordinate tasks and address issues.
• Follow janitorial and general labor duties related to food manufacturing, including sanitizing production areas and supporting food safety programs.

Essential Skills

• Knowledge of food processing and food manufacturing environments.
• Understanding of GMP guidelines and SSOP protocols in a production setting.
• Experience working with cleaning equipment, chemicals, and sanitizing processes.
• Experience working closely with food while adhering to food safety standards.
• Ability to lift 30–40 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs continuously, 40 lbs frequently, and exert up to 50 lbs occasionally.
• Ability to stand, walk, and sit frequently during the shift.
• Ability to use hands and arms for handling and reaching on a continuous basis.
• Ability to climb and balance continuously, and stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl frequently.
• Ability to communicate clearly on a continuous basis.
• Reliable and flexible work style with the ability to work independently.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with sanitation and production teams.
• Excellent attendance and a customer service mindset focused on internal and external stakeholders.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced production environment with changing priorities.
• Ability to read and interpret safety and procedure documents in English.
• Ability to read and complete sanitation records and cleaning schedules accurately.
• Capability to adapt to shift changes and report safety concerns promptly.
• Sound decision-making skills, time management, and effective use of cleaning equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Comfort working under GMP guidelines, including wearing a smock, hair net, and appropriate PPE, and avoiding jewelry or makeup in production areas.
• Familiarity with USDA-related food safety requirements, including pre-operational inspections, allergen controls, and traceability.
• Experience with Lock-out/Tag-out procedures and Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) safety practices.
• Ability to complete pest control records and sanitation logs in line with quality assurance expectations.
• Spanish language skills are a plus for reading and interpreting safety and procedure documents
• Comfort working near moving mechanical parts and in areas with moderate noise and vibration.
• Awareness of water conservation practices and proper equipment preparation for production.

Work Environment

The role is based in a food manufacturing facility with an overnight schedule from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., Monday through Friday. You work in areas that may have various food-related smells and wet floors, and you regularly handle sanitation water that can reach temperatures up to 150&degree;F. The environment includes exposure to extreme temperatures ranging approximately from 35&degree;F to 85&degree;F, water, chemicals, high-pressure hoses, moderate noise, and frequent vibration. Work is performed near moving mechanical parts and requires continuous physical activity such as standing, walking, climbing, balancing, and frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Dress code follows GMP requirements, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment such as smocks, hair nets, and other sanitation gear, with no jewelry or makeup in production areas.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Irvine, CA.

The pay range for this position is $21.50 - $21.50/hr.
