Crude Oil Analyst

BASIC PURPOSE The purpose of this position is to support Musket’s crude trading operations from Houston, Texas by managing global crude balances, developing data-driven models, identifying trading opportunities, and providing real-time insights. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES Manage global crude oil supply/demand balances Develop quantitative models to optimize flows, blending, and capacity usage Develop systematic crude trading strategies using quantitative signals and backtesting Analyze large datasets to identify trends, constraints, and commercial levers Integrate terminal, pipeline, refinery, and trading data into comprehensive models to reflect real-time inventory and movement dynamics. Run scenarios and sensitivity analysis to support trading strategy Collaborate with trading, scheduling, and supply teams to align on assumptions Partner with internal developers or data science teams to enhance analytics and ensure scalability Automate tools and reporting dashboards for real-time decision-making Identify gaps in existing crude balancing frameworks and propose innovative, data-backed solutions. Present insights and recommendations to commercial stakeholders Other duties assigned as needed EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Education: Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, Finance, Data Science, or related discipline; Master’s degree a plus Experience 3-5+ years of experience in crude oil, energy trading, or commodity analytics Experience working cross-functionally with traders, schedulers, and data/IT teams SKILLS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS Skills Strong understanding of crude oil markets, supply chains, and logistics (pipelines, terminals, marine, etc.) Proficiency in Excel, SQL, and at least one programming language; experience with visualization tools Practical experience with modern AI technologies, with the ability to effectively leverage advanced AI tools to improve analysis, automation, and decision-making. Ability to synthesize large datasets and translate outputs into actionable commercial insights Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex data in a clear, concise manner Typical Physical Demands Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping.
