Role & Responsibilities Your responsibilities may include the following functions, depending on operational requirements, clinic size and state/local law: Collaborate with physicians in evaluating the need for prosthetic and/or orthotic services and, when appropriate, recommend treatment options. Examine and evaluate patient needs related to disease and functional loss. Design prosthetic and/or orthotic devices, select materials, take cast measurements, model modifications, and layouts. Perform fitting, including static and dynamic alignments; evaluate device fit, function, medical efficacy and quality of work; adjust as needed. Instruct patients in the use of prosthetic and/or orthotic devices. Identify and resolve issues to ensure patient satisfaction with devices. Provide follow-up with patients and physicians; provide in-service training to physicians and allied health professionals. Utilize materials management, quality and performance processes to maximize device quality while balancing costs and operational performance. Engage with physicians, case managers and referral sources to review services, develop business relationships and secure ongoing referrers. Plan and implement strategies to meet and exceed revenue targets in coordination with management. Provide detailed clinical notes in patient records. Mentor residents or newly certified clinicians where applicable; assist other clinical staff. Provide information to administrative staff to support reimbursement activities. Adhere to safety regulations and comply with Medicare and other governmental regulations, including bloodborne and OSHA requirements. Perform other duties or special projects as assigned; may be asked to be on-call, perform hospital calls, or float between clinic locations. Minimum Qualifications Current board certification in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics from the American Board for Certification (ABC) or the Board of Certification (BOC), or a baccalaureate degree in prosthetics and/or orthotics with ABC board-eligibility. Valid driver\'s license and driving record meeting Hanger\'s Motor Vehicle Safety Policy and Procedures. In states where licensure is required, the ability to obtain and maintain state licensure may be required. May consider candidates who are certified in one discipline and wish to see patients in the other discipline while completing residency in the other discipline. May consider candidates who are not certified or board-eligible but have at least 5 years of demonstrated experience in providing prosthetic and/or orthotic services under supervision of a certified clinician. Additional Success Factors Principles of biomechanics, pathomechanics, gait analysis, kinesiology, anatomy and physiology. Knowledge of componentry, its suitability and reliability for specific uses. Medical terminology knowledge; effective communication skills for patient and staff. Ability to instruct clinical and non-clinical personnel and customers on patient care objectives. Active listening, reading and comprehension skills for analyzing reports and charts. Ability to assess patient condition and advise physicians on treatment options. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build professional relationships with physicians, therapists and patients. Teamwork, organizational, time management and planning abilities. Integrity, honesty, transparency and respect in all relationships; keep patient-centered focus. Foster open collaboration, constructive dialogue and continuous innovation; focus on superior outcomes. Physical Abilities Ability to lift patients using biomedical techniques frequently; capable of lifting up to 50 pounds alone. Ability to walk, bend, stand and reach regularly; visual and hearing acuity sufficient for patient care and documentation. Ability to push wheeled equipment; fine motor skills for scheduling and preparing patients, equipment and supplies. Ability to participate in sustained activities for long durations as required by state law; reasonable accommodations may be provided.
