In October 2025, Kean University and New Jersey City University(NJCU) signed a definitive agreement advancing a merger between thetwo state universities. The merger will position Kean as astatewide anchor institution and strengthens our ability to serveNew Jersey’s diverse student population and uplift communitiesthrough education. The merger is currently progressing through theappropriate levels of approval, with a goal to complete thisprocess by July 1, 2026. We are excited to invite Adjunct applications for upcomingsemesters. Please note that Adjunct faculty positions at KeanUniversity are filled on an as-needed basis. First Year Seminar – to teach a Freshmen Seminar course todevelop critical reading and thinking skills at the Union or JerseyCity campus. Each section is based on a theme selected by theinstructor. Students build community through the class experience.This introduction to college-level work will reinforceinterdisciplinary inquiry. Applicants with master's degrees in allfields (such as English, Art, History, Science, Psychology,Sociology, Philosophy, etc.) are encouraged to apply, as this is atheme-based, reading intensive course. Courses are taught during the day, twice a week for an hour and 15minutes. Day pairs are: Monday & Wednesday, Tuesday &Thursday or Wednesday & Friday. All adjunct positions are non-tenure track. They require a master’sdegree in a related field and teaching experience unless otherwiseindicated; candidates with an ABD, Ed.D., Ph.D. or other acceptabledisciplinary doctorate are encouraged to apply. Proficiency in aLearning Management System is required, consistent with Universityguidelines. Adjunct faculty teaching one three (3) or four (4) credit classshall provide at least one (1) hour of availability outside of theclassroom per week for the duration of each semester/session taughtby the adjunct faculty member. An additional thirty (30) minutes ofavailability shall be provided for each additional class taughtduring the semester/session. Availability may be in person orvirtual and shall be scheduled by the adjunct faculty member,taking into account student needs. Adjunct faculty teaching fewerthan three (3) credits shall provide at least thirty (30) minutesof availability outside of the classroom per week for the durationof each semester/session taught by the adjunct faculty member.Regardless of the number of credits an Adjunct faculty member isteaching, they may, at their discretion, provide additional officehours beyond the amounts required. Kean University Adjuncts are paid in accordance with the CollectiveBargaining Agreement: Effective September 2025, the rate of pay is: $2,100 percredit. Effective September 2026, the rate of pay is: $2,225 percredit. Beginning in their 13th semester taught, Adjuncts receive anadditional $75 per credit. Adjuncts are enrolled in a state administered retirement plan, wheneligible, and may be eligible to enroll in the Part-Time StateHealth Benefits Program for medical and prescription drug coverage.Please visit this link for more information: Health Coverage for Adjuncts .
