Job Title: HVAC Technician Job Description

This role focuses on installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems in commercial and residential settings. You will use your strong mechanical aptitude and diagnostic skills to ensure systems operate safely and efficiently, working both independently and as part of a team while delivering professional, customer-focused service.

• Install HVAC equipment, ductwork, and related mechanical systems in commercial and residential properties.
• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on heating, cooling, and refrigeration systems to ensure reliable operation.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose HVAC system issues using appropriate tools, test equipment, and technical documentation.
• Repair or replace defective components, including motors, compressors, controls, fans, and electrical parts.
• Test and inspect systems after installation, maintenance, or repair to verify proper operation and performance.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals to complete installations and repairs accurately.
• Charge, recover, and handle refrigerants safely and in compliance with applicable regulations and best practices.
• Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and documentation for all jobs completed.
• Communicate clearly with customers to explain findings, repair options, and recommendations in a professional manner.
• Follow OSHA and company safety standards at all times, including proper use of tools, equipment, and personal protective gear.
• Collaborate with team members, dispatch, and other trades as needed to complete projects efficiently.
• Identify opportunities for system improvements, energy efficiency, and preventive measures, and share these with customers or supervisors.

• Hands-on HVAC installation and service experience in commercial and/or residential environments.
• Proven troubleshooting and repair skills for heating, cooling, and refrigeration systems.
• Working knowledge of HVAC system components, including furnaces, boilers, heat pumps, rooftop units, and refrigeration systems.
• Experience using hand and power tools safely and effectively for HVAC installation and service.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
• Mechanical aptitude with strong problem-solving and diagnostic abilities.
• Electrical diagnostics skills related to HVAC systems, including control circuits and components.
• Strong customer service and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues in clear, simple terms.
• Field service experience performing on-site repairs and maintenance.
• Basic knowledge of OSHA and industry safety standards as they apply to HVAC work.
• EPA Certification preferred for handling refrigerants.
• Valid driver’s license preferred to travel to customer sites.

• Experience with both commercial HVAC systems and residential HVAC systems.
• Hands-on experience working with rooftop units, heat pumps, furnaces, and boilers.
• Background in refrigeration systems, including installation, maintenance, and repair.
• Experience performing preventative maintenance programs on HVAC and refrigeration equipment.
• Proficiency in ductwork installation and sheet metal work.
• Ability to perform electrical diagnostics on HVAC systems, including troubleshooting control boards and wiring.
• Comfort working with a variety of HVAC technologies, including gas, electric, and hydronic systems.
• EPA Certified status is a plus for refrigerant handling and compliance.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate documentation and service records.
• Strong customer-facing demeanor, with a focus on professionalism, reliability, and responsiveness.

This role is field-based and involves working at customer sites in both commercial and residential settings. You will work with HVAC and refrigeration equipment such as furnaces, boilers, rooftop units, heat pumps, and ducted systems, using a variety of hand and power tools, electrical testing instruments, and diagnostic equipment. The work often takes place indoors in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and occupied spaces, and may require working in tight or elevated areas. You will follow OSHA and company safety standards, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment. Hours may vary based on service calls and project schedules, and you may encounter a mix of routine maintenance visits and urgent repair requests.

This is a Contract position based out of Kansas City, KS.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
