Welder This role focuses on welding and fitting in a custom job shop environment, primarily working with carbon steel using MIG and flux-cored arc welding (FCAW) processes. You will perform precision work with very tight tolerances, handle layout and fit-up tasks from blueprints, and contribute to both structural and fabrication projects. The position also offers opportunities to use TIG welding on aluminum for candidates with relevant experience. Responsibilities Perform high-quality welding and fitting work on custom fabrication projects, primarily using carbon steel. Execute MIG and FCAW welding operations while maintaining very tight tolerances, including work up to 0.0060 inches. Read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and fabrication drawings to plan and complete jobs accurately. Carry out layout and fit-up of structural and fabricated components based on prints and project specifications. Weld in multiple positions, including horizontal (2G), flat (1G), and vertical (3G), as required by each project. Use TIG welding techniques on aluminum components when needed, ensuring clean, structurally sound welds. Operate fabrication equipment and tools safely while following shop procedures and quality standards. Work independently with minimal supervision, hitting the ground running on new jobs and prints. Collaborate with other welders and fitters to complete projects efficiently and meet production timelines. Maintain a positive, "can do" attitude and contribute to a supportive, family-style shop culture. Inspect completed welds and assemblies to ensure they meet structural and dimensional requirements. Keep work areas organized and safe, adhering to all safety guidelines and best practices in the welding shop. Essential Skills At least 2 years of experience working in a structural weld shop or structural welding/fitting environment. Strong proficiency in MIG welding with carbon steel in a fabrication or structural setting. Hands-on experience with flux-cored arc welding (FCAW) processes. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and fabrication drawings accurately. Demonstrated experience with layout and fit-up of structural and fabricated components. Capability to weld in 1, 2, and 3 positions (horizontal, flat, and vertical). Experience working with tight tolerances, including precision work up to 0.0060 inches. Solid understanding of structural welding practices and shop procedures. Ability to start quickly on new projects and work from prints with minimal guidance. Consistent "can do" attitude and reliability in a production welding environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications TIG welding experience, particularly with aluminum, is highly desirable. Custom metal fabrication or job shop environments is a plus. Experience as an experienced fitter is preferred, though strong tenured welders are also considered. Comfort working in a medium-sized shop with a close-knit, family-style culture. Strong communication skills to provide and receive feedback in an open-door environment. Ability to adapt to varying project requirements and work on different types of structural and fabrication jobs. Why Work Here? Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Vancouver, WA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
