About This Role
Calvary Chapel Christian Academy is seeking dependable, Christ-centered Substitute Teachers to help maintain classroom continuity when regular teachers are absent or when extended classroom coverage is needed. This role supports students through structured supervision, prepared instruction, classroom routines, and professional communication with academy leadership.This position may include day-to-day substitute assignments as well as longer-term classroom coverage, depending on academy needs.
What You'll DoThe Substitute Teacher is expected to demonstrate servant leadership by supporting academy leadership, serving students faithfully, and helping maintain consistency in the classroom environment. Servant leadership in this role includes:
- supporting academy leadership and classroom systems with a cooperative and teachable attitude
- serving students with patience, consistency, and professionalism
- maintaining emotional maturity and respectful communication
- receiving direction, correction, and feedback professionally
- contributing to a calm, structured, and orderly learning environment
- supporting the academy’s mission, culture, and organizational expectations
Instructional Responsibilities
Depending on the assignment, the Substitute Teacher may be expected to provide direct classroom instruction for an extended period of time.
Responsibilities may include:
- implementing lesson plans provided by the regular teacher or academy leadership
- delivering daily instruction in a clear, organized, and age-appropriate manner
- maintaining continuity in classroom learning and routines
- ensuring instructional time is protected and used productively
- supporting student engagement throughout lessons and activities
- preparing basic instructional materials when directed
- following curriculum guidance and academy direction for the assigned classroom
- maintaining classroom expectations, routines, and behavioral standards in alignment with academy policy and teacher-provided plans.

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Experience working with children preferred
- Experience in classroom, childcare, or school support settings preferred
- Ability to supervise students and maintain classroom structure
- Ability to communicate professionally and follow academy direction
- Commitment to supporting the Christian mission of the academy
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the classroom and campus as needed throughout the workday
- Ability to actively supervise students during instruction, transitions, and school activities
- Ability to lift and move classroom materials and supplies as needed
- Ability to respond quickly to student needs and classroom situations
- Experience teaching elementary-age students
- Experience with Abeka curriculum
- Knowledge of the Virginia Standards of Learning
- Experience in a Christian school, private school, homeschool, church, or classroom setting
- Bachelor’s degree in education or related field
- Teaching certification or eligibility for certification
- Strong classroom management skills
- Experience with differentiated instruction
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with biblical integration in the classroom
