Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting students as a Sign Language Interpreter in a dynamic educational environment near Suffolk, VA. This full-time position offers the chance to make a meaningful impact, working primarily 1:1 with elementary-aged students for the duration of the school year. Assignments may vary across campuses based on student needs, providing both variety and the ability to collaborate with various educational teams.

Responsibilities:

• Provide interpretation services to elementary-aged students in a 1:1 setting across multiple school locations, as assigned
• Adapt communication method as needed (Visaphonics preferred, but not mandatory)
• Foster inclusive, accessible classroom environments for deaf and hard-of-hearing students
• Collaborate regularly with educators, service providers, and administrative staff
• Maintain accurate records and adhere to professional ethical standards

Desired Experience and Qualifications:

• Hold a Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III, or a QAS score of 3 or better
• Strong preference for candidates with an EIPA score of 3.5 (district will also consider EIPA scores above 3.0)
• Previous experience working 1:1 with school-aged children is highly desirable
• Comfortable adapting between campuses to meet student and district needs
• Solid understanding of the interpreter’s role in an educational setting
