Orthopedic Technician

Applies and adjusts splints, casts, braces, and other orthopedic devices. Uses tools and instruments such as cast cutters, spreaders, bending irons, zimmer frames, traction cart, fracture table, and stryker frames. Fabricates casts using special materials such as plaster of Paris, fiberglass resin, polyethylene, cotton, and stockinet. Sets traction units and regulates special orthopedic devices as directed by the physician or resident. Removes sutures and staples. Adjusts medical equipment, including crutches and walkers. Maintains orthopedic supply and equipment inventory. Stocks the assigned area and maintains the orthopedic traction cart. Reviews inventory to ensure appropriate and state-of-the-art equipment is available to all patient populations. Performs related duties as required or assigned.
