Traffic Sign Crew LeaderThe Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is committed to providing a safe, high-quality, dependable, and efficient transportation system for the State of Wyoming. We are currently seeking a Traffic Sign Crew Leader in Basin, Wyoming, to lead the District 5 Signing Crew and support the District Traffic Strategic Plan. This position is responsible for supervising signing crew operations, including the maintenance, repair, replacement, and proper installation of highway signs. Through effective leadership and coordination of daily work activities, the Traffic Maintenance Crew Leader plays an important role in ensuring clear, accurate, and reliable roadway information for the traveling public on Wyoming's two-lane highways and interstates.Located in north-central Wyoming, Basin is a community rich in history, natural beauty, and community spirit. See notes for eligibility.Culture of Public Service and a commitment to work/life balanceHealth, Dental, and Vision InsuranceState Retirement plan and additional savings opportunities (deferred compensation)Paid vacation, sick leave, and holidaysPublic Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) eligibilityRetirement - Pension and 457(b) plans that help you build a secure futureFlexible schedules and work-life balance optionsMeaningful work that makes a difference for Wyoming communitiesHuman Resource Contact: View phone number on click.appcast.io / Jesse Maschke / View email address on click.appcast.io Functions: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.Supervises the highway maintenance operations of a crew and assigns daily activities according to the overall work plan determined by the Traffic Maintenance Supervisor II.Schedules crew members for shifts and on-call coverage, assigns labor and equipment.Identifies training needs of subordinate crew members; ensures training is completed; may conduct training for leads and technicians; responsible for employee hiring, coaching, and development; communicates with human resources regarding disciplinary actions and recruitment needs.Conducts performance appraisals for crew members; ensures crew members have access to computers to complete appraisals and required online training.Responsible for the upkeep, service, and scheduling of equipment repairs for their crew.Responsible for deciding the type of equipment used by the crew to accomplish the job at hand; provides guidance to crew on how to perform an unfamiliar or irregular method.Orders and maintains materials and inventory; communicates needs for high-dollar purchases to the Highway Maintenance Supervisor II.Utilizes the computer to accurately record work orders, employee time cards, and material usage in agency systems; records crew's work accomplishments.Monitors project budgets and progress, inspects projects according to state and federal quality standards, and assesses road sections and associated infrastructure for needed repair/maintenance; communicates unplanned maintenance to area supervisor.Ensures crews are working safely and according to established safety policies and procedures; conducts daily safety briefings and lines out precautions for each work activity; ensures crew members have the appropriate protective gear prior to the start of the operation.Builds and maintains positive working relationships amongst crew members, local landowners, and the public; communicate ongoing traffic control operations, and hazardous situations to the public when necessary.Maintains ongoing and open communication with Highway Maintenance Supervisors and district staff to ensure work is completed efficiently and safely across the overall district and statewide.Preferences/Agency Requirements: Must have the ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (Permit within 30 days of employment) Must have the ability to obtain a NCCCO Crane Certification Must have the ability to obtain a Certificate of course completion of Defensive Driving. Must have the ability to obtain a First Aid/CPR certification. Must have the ability to obtain a Flagger certification.Knowledge of state and federal highway safety standards and traffic control procedures Knowledge of routine and specialized highway maintenance operations Knowledge of agency policies and procedures, agency quality and road service commitments, and safe work practices Knowledge of WYDOT policies and procedures. Traffic control and MUTCD knowledge. Knowledge of budget monitoring, agency billing procedures, and inventory tracking Knowledge of computers, basic office equipment, Gmail, and WYDOT databases/systems Knowledge of regulations and state and federal agencies that relate to highway traffic operations (i.e. OSHA, EPA, DEQ, BLM, USFWS, Bureau of Reclamation, Bureau of Indian Affairs, etc., and city and county governments) Knowledge of resource and time management Knowledge of team building practices and relationship buildingMinimum Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's Degree (typically in Management) Experience: 0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Highway Maintenance/Highway Construction) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Highway Maintenance Specialist Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Class A Commercial Driver's License OR Education & Experience Substitution: 3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Highway Maintenance/Highway Construction) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Highway Maintenance Specialist Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Class A Commercial Driver's LicensePhysical Working Conditions: Must be able to work on the roadway under traffic. Must be able to climb on and around working construction equipment. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.Qualifying eligibility and criteria for the hiring bonus: Temporary employees accepting a full-time position. Current employees accepting a promotional opportunity - recruitment must have been opened to the public. One year of service to WYDOT must be completed, failure to complete this requirement will forfeit the hiring incentive, and funds will be recouped from final pay. Internal candidates would be required to remain in the position for a minimum of one (1) year from their promotion date. Employees would only be eligible for one (1) hiring bonus in a 12-month period.
