Job Description Athletic Director Position Summary Our Athletic Director is actively engaged in the Bayview-Hunters Point community, and embraces the mission and values of KIPP San Francisco College Preparatory. The AD is responsible for planning, scheduling, coordinating, and managing supervision for all athletics events involving KIPP San Francisco College Preparatory. The Athletic Director operates in compliance with the state regulating agency, operational direction of KIPP Northern California Public Schools leadership, section and state athletics governing body bylaws, and state and local regulatory agencies. The AD supports the principal in implementing the school's Cultural Vision and fosters a culture of high expectations. They also build strong partnerships with families and the community, and create a safe environment that welcomes, reflects, and supports the diversity of the student population and communities served. All Athletic Directors serve in an instructional capacity unique to their school setting, and all KIPP educators hold the following values as part of their practice:
Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands
Physical: Ability to navigate office and school campuses, and hold meetings in different spaces. Traditionally, much of the day involves sitting. Ability to access and utilize technology. Occasional lifting/carrying of equipment 20-40 lbs. Mental: Stress of deadlines and normal work standards, ability to analyze problems and generate alternatives, work with interruptions, concentrate for long periods of time, read, calculate, perform routine math problems, memorize and recall objects and people. Environmental: Gym or field environment will usually contain both participants and spectators. Location of gyms and fields will vary. In an emergency context (e.g., pandemic), the season may be postponed or canceled. School and classroom environment subject to constant interruptions and distractions. Adhere to KIPP's health and safety guidelines as outlined by the CDC, CDE, and public health agencies' recommendations.

- At least 2 to 3 years of High School Head Coaching experience required
- Valid CA license (Class C) and current insurance coverage
- Safe driving record (will be asked to provide a DMV report)
- Bachelor's Degree (major in kinesiology or dance preferred)
- Experience in administration
- Experience in a comparable high school setting
- Hold a B.A/B.S degree from a regionally accredited institution
- Meet one of the following eligibility requirements:
- Hold a valid teaching credential, or
- Eligibility for a Provisional Internship Permit, or
- Eligibility for a Short Term Staff Permit
- Understanding of interscholastic athletics
- Superior communication, organizational skills, and ability to work with diverse groups
- Administrative experience and proficiency using Google Suite (email, calendars, docs)
- Ability to coach coaches, and support their growth and development
- Ability to communicate professionally and in a timely manner via phone and email
- Commitment to KIPP mission and vision
- Commitment to being an anti-racist educator
- Believe all students can achieve at the highest academic levels
- Possess strong content area knowledge
- Strong skills building relationships with students, families, and communities
- Communicate well with students, families, and colleagues

- Implement culturally responsive classroom management strategies to create a safe environment for all students to learn & achieve.
- Communicate regularly with staff, students, families, and other key stakeholders to ensure strong partnerships.
- Attend and engage in weekly Professional Development and other Communities of Practice to continue learning and growing as an educator.

- Facilitates the recruitment and selection of coaches, as well as supervision and support
- Establishes and executes a program of Professional Development for the coaching staff
- Manages external coaches HR items and pay (onboarding, approving timesheets, ensuring compliance items are completed, etc.)
- Assist coaches in developing academic interventions in alignment with KIPP policies and enforce academic expectations set forth by the CIF
- In collaboration with head coaches, schedules all interscholastic athletics events, inclusive on contests and practices and matches the competitive level of the teams
- Manages the distribution and collection of uniforms and equipment
- Establishes supervision policies and practices for athletic facilities
- Coordinates with outside groups and the city for off-site facilities rentals as needed
- Adheres to federal, state, league and school regulations governing programming and participation:
- Develops and updates the Department Handbook for staff, parents, and student-athletes which includes setting and communicating vision of the program
- Keeps records of all interscholastic contests and sport-specific performance records
- Prepares and administers the Athletics Department budget and fundraising efforts (tracks all spending, makes sure funds are distributed equitably within each program)
- Facilitates the prompt submission of reports, forms, and fees due to the CIF, CCS, and PSAL
- Ensure title IX is being adhered to and that the school is compliance in terms of gender equity
- Approves and assists in the planning and execution of trips pertaining to athletic activities
- Coordinates school-provided student transportation
- Represents the school at sectional and league meetings
- Adheres to league, section, state, and school requirements of eligibility for participation
- Develops and creates systems for schedules for games, practices, meetings, traveling that are equitable amongst all parties involved
- Ensures equitable access for all programs in regards to facilities, funds, and attention from the AD
- Plan and execute seasonal events to celebrate students and the community when it comes to athletic and academic performances
- Update and communicate athletics news through calendars, social media and website platforms to promote school spirit and celebrate students
- Runs systems for Academic Reports and review and communicates to coaches and families regarding student eligibility
- Promotes an atmosphere of cooperation and teamwork
- Develop teamwork, morale, sportsmanship, courtesy, fair play, academic excellence, and strict adherence to the rules of training and conduct
- Promote the attitude among athletes and coaches that winning is important but is secondary to good sportsmanship and the overall welfare of the athlete
- Represents the school in an exemplary fashion
- Always act in the best interest of students and manage disciplinary systems within each team and whole department consistent with the mission of the athletics program
- Continues to develop professionally and learn best practices of being an athletic administrator through NIAAA and other organizations
- Obtain/maintain required NFHS and First Aid/CPR certifications required by the PSAL and CIF
- Complete required safety training for basic first aid and injury prevention available through SafeSchools and NFHS Learn, including, but not limited to:
- Annually - mandated reporter, bloodborne pathogens, concussion in sports, sudden cardiac arrest, heat illness prevention
- Every Two Years - CPR and First Aid:
- At time of hire - Fundamentals of Coaching or certificate of completion in a previous sports season
- Attend seasonal informational meeting regarding your sport
- Monitor student-athlete academic progress, eligibility, and graduation readiness.
- Partner with counselors, teachers, and families to provide support for student-athletes.
- Promote a culture where academics come first and athletics serves as a pathway to college and career success.
- Partner with school leadership to use athletics as a strategy for student recruitment, retention, and community engagement.
- Build relationships with local schools, youth sports programs, and community organizations to expand participation and awareness of SFCP.
- Support recruitment events, family outreach, and summer engagement opportunities to help achieve enrollment goals.
