Workers Compensation Attorney

Overview A law firm seeks an associate attorney with a minimum of 3 years of experience in defending workers' compensation and/or insurance defense to join their Overland Park, KS office. The candidate must be licensed in KS and eligible for MO reciprocity via UBE transfer or years of experience. Responsibilities Gather and review medical evidence and records. Take depositions of claimants, physicians, and experts. Conduct discovery and perform legal research. Draft pleadings, motions, and other legal documents. Litigate cases before a workers' compensation judge. Represent employers or insurers at various proceedings. Communicate with claims representatives. Monitor loss run reports and alert management to concerns. Assist with accident investigations. Manage workers' compensation costs. Compile and submit management reports. Coordinate and attend claims reviews. Negotiate settlements on behalf of clients. Requirements J.D. and licensed in MO and KS or reciprocity required. Experience in workers' compensation defense work. Knowledge of legal principles and practices. Familiarity with local, state, and federal laws. Proficiency in legal research techniques. Experience with Microsoft Word; Time Matters preferred. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Attention to detail and ability to multi-task. Excellent telephone and writing skills. Self-motivated and able to meet deadlines. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Maintain firm and client confidentiality. Education Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree. Certifications Licensed to practice law in KS and MO or eligible for reciprocity. Skills Legal research and drafting. Strong communication and negotiation skills.
