Certified Medical Billing Specialist / Medical Coder

Location: Los Angeles, CA
Job Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Monday-Friday | 8-hour shifts (typically starting between 8:00 AM - 9:00 AM)

Compensation

$30.00 - $35.00 per hour

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Certified Medical Billing Specialist / Medical Coder to join a growing healthcare team. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with strong knowledge of medical coding and billing, including Medicare and Medi-Cal claims processing. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently while maintaining a high level of accuracy and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Assign accurate CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes for medical procedures and diagnoses.

• Ensure compliance with Medicare, Medi-Cal, and other payer-specific coding guidelines.

• Submit accurate insurance claims in a timely manner.

• Review, investigate, and resolve claim edits, denials, and rejections.

• Correct and rebill claims as needed.

• Verify documentation supports billed services and coding selections.

• Collaborate with providers and clinical staff to clarify diagnoses and procedures.

• Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding claims.

• Maintain accurate billing documentation within the practice management system.

• Stay current with coding updates, CMS regulations, and payer policies.

• Ensure compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies.

QualificationsRequired Certification

• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) through AAPC or

• Equivalent certification such as CCS or CCA.

• Candidates with an expired certification and at least three years of relevant coding experience may also be considered.

Experience

• 2-4 years of medical coding and billing experience.

• Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding.

• Experience with Medicare and Medi-Cal billing.

• Proven experience handling claim denials, appeals, and payer follow-up.
