Overview The Senior HR Generalist serves as a strategic partner responsible for supporting a broad range of human resource functions with a strong focus on talent acquisition. This role leads full-cycle recruitment efforts and contributes to employee onboarding, engagement, and recognition, while also supporting areas such as benefits, compliance, employee relations, and general HR operations. With a service-minded approach and focus on consistency, the Senior HR Generalist plays a key role in enhancing the employee experience and organizational effectiveness. Responsibilities ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (Other duties may be assigned) (50%) Talent Acquisition, Retention & Onboarding Lead full-cycle recruitment, including job postings, sourcing, screening, interviewing, and onboarding. Collaborate with managers to define job needs, develop job descriptions, and ensure effective, equitable hiring processes. Prepare and extend offers aligned with organizational pay standards and total rewards philosophy. Promote the College’s employer through community engagement and recruiting events. Continuously evaluate and recommend innovative strategies for recruitment and retention. Maintain and optimize the Applicant Tracking System (ATS) to ensure efficient and compliant hiring workflows. Deliver a consistent and engaging onboarding experience, identifying improvements to enhance new hire success and retention. Track and analyze hiring metrics (e.g., vacancy rates, time to fill, turnover) to inform recruitment strategies. Manage the recruitment budget. (20%) Engagement & Recognition Lead recognition efforts that reflect and reinforce the College’s values. Partner with managers to support employee engagement, satisfaction, and retention initiatives. Analyze engagement and workforce data to identify trends, challenges, and opportunities for improvement. Actively engage with internal and external committees, groups, and organizations. (20%) Compliance & General HR Support Provide guidance on HR policies, procedures, and employment practices. Ensure compliance with employment laws (e.g., FLSA, ADA, EEOC, FMLA, Title VII). Ensure hiring and HR practices comply with employment laws, college policies, and best practices. Assist with audits, documentation, and HR process reviews for continuous improvement and legal compliance. Support affirmative Action and Civil Rights Compliance efforts (e.g., coordinate activities, reporting, facilitate communication, ensure progress toward established goals). Maintain and manage faculty requirement documentation, ensuring information is up to date during all phases of the employment lifecycle. Contribute to HR team initiatives, projects, and process improvements as needed. (10%) Benefits & Employee Education Serve as a resource for employee benefits questions, enrollment, and wellness offerings. Provide general assistance with leave-related needs in coordination with the HR and Benefits Manager. Provide support during open enrollment and assist with benefit communications. Facilitate New Employee Orientation with a focus on benefits and HR information. Collaborate with the HR team to ensure consistent messaging and informed decision-making. Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related discipline required. Two to three years of related occupational experience required, with experience in recruitment strongly preferred. Note: May consider candidates with alternative combinations of education and experience consistent with the College’s equivalency guidelines. Certifications, Licensure, Registration SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or other recognized HR certification preferred. Certifications in talent acquisition or benefits administration are a plus. Knowledge KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of Lakeshore’s mission, vision, and strategic direction. Working knowledge of employment law, HR best practices, and recruiting strategies. Proficiency with applicant tracking systems and HRIS tools. Familiarity with advanced social media, and sourcing techniques used to find passive candidates. Strong understanding of behavioral-based interviewing and other techniques used to evaluate candidate competencies. Skills Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Effective interpersonal skills and customer service skills.Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Abilities Adapt quickly to new and changing technology. Perform work accurately and thoroughly, with a high level of accountability and attention to detail. Work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision. Present self in a professional, ethical, and respectful manner at all times. Use discretion and maintain a high level of confidentiality. Prioritize and manage multiple projects or tasks, maintaining deadlines. Establish and maintain effective working relationships and relate successfully with staff, students and all stakeholders. Physical Demands/Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Work environment may require multi-tasking. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
