Position Summary

Better Planet and Warehouse Sales & Services is seeking an experienced Senior Cost Accountant to provide full-time accounting support for multiple companies. This is a full-time, on-site, in-person W-2 position based in Georgia.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in manufacturing cost accounting, inventory accounting, production accounting, financial reporting, intercompany accounting, and QuickBooks Online . This position requires more than general ledger and bookkeeping experience. The successful candidate must understand how costs move through a manufacturing environment-from purchasing and inventory through work orders, production, labor, overhead, finished goods, sales, and ultimately the financial statements.

The Senior Cost Accountant will be expected to analyze manufacturing costs, identify discrepancies, support accurate inventory valuation, evaluate production and inventory adjustments, and provide management with reliable financial information for decision-making. Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles within a manufacturing company is required.

The successful candidate will be highly analytical, organized, detail-oriented, and capable of independently identifying accounting discrepancies and determining their root causes. This individual will work closely with management, operations, purchasing, warehouse, production, and other cross-functional teams to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timely completion of accounting activities.

Key ResponsibilitiesManufacturing & Cost Accounting - Core Responsibility

• Perform and oversee manufacturing cost accounting activities , including analysis of direct materials, direct labor, manufacturing overhead, work-in-process (WIP), and finished goods.

• Understand and analyze the full manufacturing cost flow from raw materials through production and finished goods .

• Review and analyze production costs to determine whether costs are being properly captured, classified, allocated, and reported.

• Perform inventory accounting and valuation , including investigation of inventory variances, adjustments, discrepancies, write-offs, and unusual movements.

• Analyze material usage, labor costs, manufacturing overhead, production variances, and other cost drivers .

• Review work orders and production-related transactions to identify accounting or costing discrepancies.

• Reconcile inventory-related accounts to the general ledger and investigate differences between physical inventory, operational inventory records, and accounting records .

• Assist management in understanding the financial impact of production activity, inventory movements, purchasing decisions, and operational changes.

• Analyze standard costs, actual costs, cost variances, and manufacturing margins where applicable.

• Support the development, maintenance, and review of product costing and pricing information .

• Evaluate the accounting impact of inventory adjustments and determine whether adjustments are properly supported, authorized, documented, and recorded.

• Identify trends in material, labor, overhead, and production costs and communicate significant variances to management.

• Assist with cost-of-goods-sold (COGS) analysis , gross margin analysis, and manufacturing profitability.

• Work closely with Production, Warehouse, Purchasing, and Inventory Control to investigate and resolve costing and inventory discrepancies.

• Ensure manufacturing-related accounting transactions are supported by appropriate documentation and comply with company policies and accounting principles.

• Assist management with cost analysis for new products, customer projects, production changes, and pricing decisions .

• Develop and maintain appropriate documentation and procedures for manufacturing cost accounting processes.

General Accounting & Financial Reporting

• Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations.

• Prepare monthly financial statements and support month-end and year-end closing activities.

• Prepare and record journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, depreciation, interest expense, and other required accounting adjustments.

• Support payroll accounting and payroll-related reconciliations.

• Prepare and support 1099 reporting and related documentation.

• Review general ledger activity for accuracy, completeness, and appropriate account classification.

• Investigate unusual account activity and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.

• Support management reporting and financial analysis.

Inventory & Operational Accounting

• Maintain accurate accounting records related to raw materials, components, WIP, finished goods, and other inventory categories.

• Reconcile inventory accounts and investigate differences between operational records and the general ledger.

• Analyze inventory adjustments and determine the appropriate accounting treatment.

• Review inventory transactions for appropriate coding, documentation, authorization, and financial impact.

• Partner with Inventory Control and Warehouse personnel to improve inventory accuracy and financial controls.

• Assist with cycle-count and physical-inventory reconciliation processes.

• Monitor inventory-related expenses and identify unusual or unexplained variances.

• Support management in evaluating excess, obsolete, damaged, or slow-moving inventory.

Intercompany Accounting

• Maintain accurate intercompany accounting records across multiple companies.

• Support intercompany billing and related accounting processes using Clockify.

• Reconcile intercompany balances and investigate discrepancies.

• Ensure intercompany transactions are properly documented, recorded, and supported.

• Assist with month-end intercompany reconciliations and eliminations as applicable.

QuickBooks Online & Accounting Records

• Maintain accurate QuickBooks Online records for multiple companies.

• Maintain and review the chart of accounts.

• Review deleted, voided, or otherwise modified transactions and supporting documentation.

• Review declined estimates and related documentation.

• Ensure transactions are properly coded and supported.

• Maintain accounting master data and reference files.

• Ensure accounting records are complete, organized, and audit-ready.

Documentation, Compliance & Process Improvement

• Maintain invoices, receipts, ACH authorizations, W-9s, tax codes, tax exemption certificates, mileage records, and other accounting documentation.

• Maintain corporate records, including Secretary of State filings, leases, contracts, subscriptions, and other accounting documentation.

• Support State of Georgia business filings and accounting compliance requirements.

• Maintain accounting templates, reference files, SOPs, work instructions, and master data.

• Develop and improve accounting procedures and internal controls.

• Identify opportunities to improve accounting accuracy, efficiency, documentation, and financial controls.

• Assist with expense reports, benefits administration support, rental workbook processes, and other accounting projects as assigned.

• Collaborate with management and cross-functional departments to identify the  root cause of accounting, inventory, costing, and financial discrepancies .

• Maintain accurate and organized accounting documentation in accordance with company policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.

• 5+ years of senior-level accounting experience.

• Strong hands-on manufacturing accounting experience required.

• Strong hands-on cost accounting experience required.

• Demonstrated understanding of manufacturing cost structures and cost flows required.

• Strong knowledge of  inventory accounting, inventory valuation, COGS, WIP, finished goods, and manufacturing variances.

• Experience analyzing  direct materials, direct labor, manufacturing overhead, production costs, and cost variances.

• Experience reconciling inventory and investigating inventory adjustments and discrepancies.

• Strong understanding of how  operational manufacturing activity impacts the general ledger and financial statements.

• Experience supporting product costing, pricing analysis, gross margin analysis, or manufacturing profitability preferred.

• Strong knowledge of intercompany accounting.

• Advanced proficiency with  QuickBooks Online .

• Knowledge of NetSuite ERP is preferred

• Advanced Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills.

• Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and documentation skills.

• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

• Ability to investigate discrepancies and determine the underlying cause rather than simply correcting the accounting entry.

• Ability to communicate financial and cost information clearly to non-accounting departments.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently while collaborating effectively with management and cross-functional teams.

• Must reside in Georgia and be available to work on-site, in person, on a full-time basis.

• Must be eligible and willing to work as a W-2 employee.
