About the Office The mission of the United States Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of Texas is to enforce federal laws and defend the interests of the United States. The office works closely with agencies and law enforcement throughout the district. The Eastern District has offices in Beaumont, Lufkin, Plano, Sherman, Texarkana, and Tyler. Job Description Assistant United States Attorney in the Civil Division, based in Beaumont, Plano, Sherman, or Tyler. The role involves representing the United States, its agencies, and offices in defensive and affirmative litigation. Responsibilities include health care fraud, environmental matters, defense procurement fraud, torts, administrative enforcement actions, Touhy matters, prisoner litigation, housing and employment discrimination, disability rights, and other civil matters. Duties include investigations, evidence gathering, briefing, writing legal briefs, and appearance in court hearings and trials. Responsibilities Represent the United States in civil litigation, including claims related to health care fraud, environmental matters, and other areas Investigate cases, gather evidence, take testimony, and prepare legal briefs Appear in court for hearings and trials Handle additional civil cases as assigned Increase responsibilities and assignments as training and experience grow Qualifications Required J.D. degree or equivalent Active membership in good standing of the bar in any U.S. jurisdiction U.S. citizenship Preferred Prior civil trial experience covering all stages of litigation Strong analytical, oral, and writing skills Research, interpersonal skills, and good judgment Excellent communication and courtroom skills Security and Residency Requirements Initial appointment requires a satisfactory preemployment adjudication, including fingerprint, credit, tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment depends on favorable background investigation. Attorneys must reside in the district or within 25 miles. Salary Information Pay is determined by years of attorney experience. Beaumont and Tyler: $76,748 to $173,485 (includes 17.06% locality pay) Plano and Sherman: $83,435 to $188,602 (includes 27.26% locality pay) Travel Occasional travel may be required.
