Dick’s Towing is looking for an experienced Heavy Duty Tow Operator to join our team. This is a hands-on role for an experienced towing and recovery professional who can safely handle everything from commercial vehicle towing to complex accident recovery and heavy equipment transport.

The ideal candidate has experience operating heavy-duty wreckers, flatbeds, and/or rotators , understands proper recovery and rigging techniques, and can remain calm and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations.

What You'll Do

• Respond promptly to dispatched towing and recovery calls throughout the assigned service area
• Operate heavy-duty wreckers, flatbeds, and rotator recovery units
• Perform heavy-duty towing, accident recovery, winching, uprighting, load shifts, and vehicle recovery
• Safely tow and transport semi-trucks, tractors, trailers, buses, construction equipment, and other heavy equipment
• Perform complex recoveries using rotator capabilities, including multi-point lifts and 360&degree; recovery operations
• Properly rig and secure vehicles and equipment using chains, straps, snatch blocks, multi-line winching systems, and other recovery equipment
• Perform ICC and private-property relocations when assigned
• Communicate professionally with dispatch, law enforcement, customers, and other personnel at the scene
• Use efficient routing and manage calls from dispatch through final destination
• Accurately document jobs, services, mileage, equipment, and billing information in Towbook
• Complete thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections
• Keep assigned equipment clean, organized, fueled, and ready for service
• Follow all company safety procedures and maintain a professional appearance

Equipment You'll Operate

Depending on experience and assignment, operators may work with:

• Heavy-duty wreckers with underlift/wheel-lift systems
• Heavy-duty flatbeds, including Landoll equipment
• Rotator recovery units
• Heavy-duty winching and recovery systems
• Multi-line rigging and snatch blocks
• Specialized recovery equipment

Safety & Compliance

Safety is a top priority. You will be expected to:

• Follow all applicable DOT, FMCSA, and Illinois ICC regulations
• Maintain proper load securement and weight distribution
• Use required PPE and follow roadside and accident-scene safety procedures
• Maintain awareness of traffic, environmental, and job-site hazards
• Maintain a safe driving record and operate company equipment responsibly
• Participate in ongoing towing, recovery, and safety training

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Valid CDL ; Class A preferred
• Clean MVR with at least 3 years of safe driving history
• Experience with heavy-duty towing and recovery
• Strong understanding of vehicle recovery, load securement, and rigging techniques
• Ability to safely operate heavy equipment and towing/recovery vehicles
• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations
• Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts
• Ability to climb, lift, bend, and work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Professional communication and customer service skills
• Fluent in English

Preferred:

• Experience operating a heavy-duty rotator
• Rotator certification or equivalent field experience
• Previous accident-scene and complex heavy-recovery experience
• Experience towing loaded and unloaded trailers
• Knowledge of air brake systems
• Experience with Towbook or similar towing/dispatch software
• Spanish-speaking skills are a plus
