Credit Risk Analyst

Senior Credit Risk Analyst San Francisco, CA Full-Time Employee | Hybrid Job Summary As the first peer‑to‑peer lending marketplace in the United States, Prosper relies on data‑driven strategies to govern automated decisions in our online marketplace. The Senior Credit Risk Analyst will develop verification and fraud strategies, leveraging machine learning models and advanced analytics tools to manage credit decisions and improve credit performance. The role requires strong analytical skills, innovative problem solving, and a passion for advancing financial well‑being. Responsibilities Develop credit and fraud strategies to improve credit performance using data, machine learning models, and advanced analytics tools to optimize risk decisions. Apply out‑of‑the‑box thinking to make recommendations and solve complex problems. Design A/B tests and analyze risk and customer experience trade‑offs. Continuously innovate by testing new data, analytics approaches, and models. Partner with Data Science, Product, Engineering and other teams to implement and validate credit and fraud prevention strategies, testing pre‑ and post‑performance. Conduct ad‑hoc analysis related to risk management, product, and operations. Analyze portfolio performance at a granular segment level on an ongoing basis. Identify trends and conduct root‑cause analysis to isolate key performance drivers. Communicate findings and recommendations to Risk Management and the broader Prosper community. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Business, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or Economics. 2+ years of experience managing credit risk and/or fraud and/or data science in the consumer lending industry (consumer personal loan / credit card experience is a plus). Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills. Proficiency in SQL and Python; experience with DBT and Looker is a plus. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical subject matter clearly to team members and senior management. Knowledge of segmentation, statistical procedures, and financial analytics tools. Curiosity, willingness to ask questions, probe reasons, and challenge the status quo. Strong ownership and motivation to drive business results. Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and meet deadlines without sacrificing quality. Consideration for candidates without financial services experience but with a strong technology background and analytical skills. Self‑starter; comfortable dealing with ambiguity.
