Changing Lives.The 6 JCP unit is a 47-bed intermediate and acute care neuroscience unit caring for adult neurology and neurosurgical patient population requiring telemetry monitoring, ventriculostomies with intracranial pressure monitoring, and intensive neurological monitoring. Patient diagnoses include stroke, central nervous system (CNS) autoimmune diseases, surgeries of the brain and spinal cord, and neurological traumas involving the head, brain, and spinal cord. Our honors and awards include:Joint Commission Stroke Center of ExcellenceJoint Commission Comprehensive Stroke CenterJoint Commission Gold Seal of Approval for stroke careThe Joint Commission Designated Primary Stroke CenterResponsibilities will include, but are not limited to:Independently obtain and record vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressureCarry out medical asepsis when performing skills and tasks including but not limited to phlebotomy, peripheral IV removal, & Foley catheter removal and cares for patients who are medically isolatedPerform simple diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as enemas, preoperative preparation of the skin, dressing changes, collecting specimens, applying binders, braces, etcPerform special duties as taught and directed by the nurse in charge including but not limited to phlebotomy, ECG lead/12 lead placement, and brace/pin site caresAssist with patient admission, transfers, and dischargesDirectly provide for patients' personal hygiene and comfortTurn, positions and ambulates patientsTransport patients, equipment, specimens, and suppliesFeed patients, serve drinking water and nourishments, and record patients' intakeAssist patients with bedpans and urinals and record outputParticipate in nursing care conferences; report pertinent patient information and incidents to nurse in chargeProvide for patient comfort measures through social interactionsShare responsibility for preparation, proper use and care of equipment and supplies, and for neatness and cleanliness of unitMay assemble and maintain equipment and supplies in preparation for various diagnostic or treatment procedures performed by physicians or nurseClean areas per designated guidelines and standards demonstrating proper use of approved disinfectants, cleaning products, and care of the housekeeping equipmentStock and supply patient rooms and nursing unitsPercent of Time: 50% - 20 hours per week Schedule: Day and Night rotating shifts, will include a weekend rotation and holiday rotation Location: University Campus, Iowa City, IA Merit Pay Plan Benefits Highlights:Regular salaried position located in Iowa City, IowaFringe benefit package including paid vacation; sick leave; health, dental, life and disability insurance options; and generous employer contributions into retirement plansFor more information about Why Iowa?, click HERE!Minimum Eligibility Requirements:Ability to read, write and follow instructions.Please include a resume with your submission.
