Responsibilities The Occupational Therapist will primarily provide outpatient rehabilitation services in an in‑home setting for the older adult population. The setting could be a patient’s private residence or a room in an independent living facility. Evaluate and treat patients in their functional environment (home). Organize and conduct occupational therapy programs for the agency to facilitate rehabilitation. Direct patient participation in selected tasks to restore, reinforce, and enhance performance. Facilitate learning of skills and functions essential for adaptation and productivity. Supervise Occupational Therapy Assistants, temporary licensees, students, and support personnel as applicable. Adhere to department and patient treatment schedules, clinical and billing documentation, and attendance to staffing conferences. Make referrals to other disciplines and agencies to address comprehensive patient needs. Consult with rehabilitation team members, including community physicians, to select appropriate therapeutic regimens. Adapt program and/or plan of care according to individual patient needs. Promote a safe environment by eliminating fire and safety hazards. Order supplies and equipment as necessary. Maintain and report equipment repair needs. Ensure patients and families receive high‑quality, compassionate service. Screen, examine, and evaluate patients, including history, systems review, and appropriate tests and measures. Interpret findings to establish diagnosis, identify impairments, determine predicted improvement, and design plan of care. Develop appropriate treatment goals and methods in collaboration with patients and caregivers. Implement occupational therapy treatment plans and complete all related documentation and record‑keeping. Apply therapeutic techniques in areas such as cognitive skills, muscle strength, coordination, endurance, mobility, perceptual abilities, sensory awareness, sitting and standing tolerance, balance, activities of daily living, joint protection, work simplification, orientation, physical agent modalities, low vision, fall risk management, medication management, health and wellness, community integration, and re‑integration. Design, fabricate, fit, and apply adaptive devices; train patients in their use (orthotics and prosthetics). Select appropriate activities based on physical and mental capacity, intelligence level, and interest. Instruct patients in skills and techniques required for functional participation and evaluate progress, attitudes, and behavior. Perform routine reexaminations as needed and modify or progress treatment plans. Perform other related duties as required. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in an occupational therapy curriculum accredited by ACOTE standards. Initial registration from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy. Valid and unencumbered occupational therapy license in the state of practice. Valid driver’s license or reliable, independent transportation to and from patient residences.
