Job Summary

The Vice President of Quality promotes high‑quality, patient‑centered care by overseeing the Quality Management/Patient Safety Programs and Performance Improvement programs across a complex, multi‑site organization. The Vice President ensures the facilitation and utilization of diverse strategies and communication for quality and performance improvement, providing an integrated framework for monitoring, evaluating, and improving quality of care. The Vice President drives performance improvement to achieve care excellence and oversees the hospital regulatory and accreditation program.

Responsibilities
  • Drive facility‑wide standardization in targeted process improvement initiatives and evaluate success through pre‑established criteria and measurement tools.
  • Collaborate with all stakeholders to drive care excellence across a complex organization.
  • Lead in strategy development for performance improvement through system thinking and safety science application across multiple service lines and care settings.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and objectives; review and update the Quality Improvement Plan regularly.
  • Collaborate with facility leadership in establishment of operational performance measurements and targets, and monitor trends in key performance indicators.
  • Lead and oversee the quality department with responsibility for care excellence, disease‑specific care, risk management, patient safety, and other performance improvement activities.
  • Develop and monitor the department budget.
  • Perform regular analysis of facility quality and risk performance data and make recommendations for process and system changes to improve healthcare value and quality.
  • Ensure effective execution of all activities concerning continuous regulatory and survey readiness.
  • Maintain oversight of Quality and PI software and reporting systems to meet internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Monitor completeness, accuracy, and validity of quality files on medical staff and advance practice professionals.
  • Participate as an active member of peer review committees; analyze cases and outcome data and collaborate with physicians to improve practice and patient outcomes.
  • Collaborate with division and corporate entities and external parties to ensure strategic quality and patient safety initiatives are fully executed at the facility level.
  • Serve as a technical advisor, educator, and internal consultant to all hospital management, staff, and physicians on performance improvement tools and techniques.
  • Ensure the selection, retention, and assignment of qualified staff to meet organizational needs.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders and oversee the development of orientation and ongoing education for staff regarding quality and patient safety initiatives.
  • Coordinate with the Patient Safety Director for event analysis, FMEA development, and proactive safety activities to support a culture of transparency and safety science.
  • Direct and lead activities of the Quality Committee of the Board in collaboration with facility leadership.
Qualifications
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Tennessee or a compact state required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or a health‑related field required; Master’s degree in nursing or a health‑related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of data analysis experience in a healthcare setting required.
  • 4+ years of experience in healthcare quality/risk management with demonstrated leadership required.
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) or Certification in Healthcare Quality Management (CHCQM) required or must be obtained within 1 year of hire.
