We are seeking a dependable, patient, and energetic In-Home Caregiver / Community Support Specialist to provide one-on-one support for an adult with autism and developmental disabilities. The ideal candidate will have previous experience working with individuals with autism and familiarity with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), line therapy, behavior technician services, or similar structured behavioral support .

This position is focused on helping a young adult remain active, engaged, safe, and as independent as possible at home and in the community. At times, the caregiver will provide care independently while parents are away, functioning similarly to individualized adult day support.

This is not simply a companion or babysitting position. We are looking for someone who will actively engage with him, encourage participation in activities, help build daily living and community skills, and provide a safe and positive environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one supervision and support in the family home and community.
• Provide independent care when parents or other family members are not present.
• Use positive reinforcement, prompting, redirection, and other techniques commonly associated with ABA-based support.
• Maintain established routines and provide clear, consistent expectations.
• Encourage communication, choice-making, independence, and appropriate self-advocacy.
• Assist with activities of daily living as needed.
• Encourage participation in household tasks and development of functional life skills.
• Plan and participate in meaningful recreational and leisure activities.
• Accompany him on community outings such as parks, stores, restaurants, recreational activities, and other appropriate destinations.
• Encourage physical activity, social interaction, and engagement rather than passive supervision.
• Assist with meals, snacks, and basic food preparation as needed.
• Recognize potential behavioral triggers and use appropriate de-escalation and redirection strategies.
• Follow established family routines, behavioral strategies, safety procedures, and care instructions.
• Maintain appropriate communication with parents regarding activities, behaviors, concerns, and progress.
• Provide transportation for community activities when agreed upon and appropriate.
• Maintain a safe environment and respond appropriately to unexpected situations or emergencies.
