Municipal Marketing Manager WastePro is one of the country’s fastest growing privately owned solid waste collection, recycling, processing and disposal companies. The role seeks an experienced marketer to drive municipal revenue growth through business development, client relationships, and strategic sales initiatives.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Develops maximum potential sales volume and profitability from municipal markets within the defined regional territory. Participates in short- and long‑term strategic market and sales planning. Accountable for increasing WastePro market share and ensuring sales plans for the territory are aligned and accomplished in accordance with company mission and established goals. Leverages strategy assessments, planning, and cross‑functional interaction to achieve high internal and external client satisfaction. Drives acquisition and retention of governmental (city and county) contracts by maintaining critical relationships with elected officials, appointed staff, and other influential stakeholders. Maintains close and active relationships with elected and key officials and attends Commission/Council meetings frequently. Seeks every opportunity to increase market share, revenue and profitability by securing new contracts and additional services, gaining support of decision‑makers and attending to all critical buying influences. Accounts for assisting clients and functioning in a consultative "industry expert" capacity. Accounts for developing bid and RFP submittal packages and ensuring proposals meet all specification requirements, pro‑forma needs, and professional quality. Interfaces with WastePro executives, managers, associates and customers to target opportunities and aggressively pursue viable leads. Acts, directly or indirectly, in partnership with key stakeholders (RVP, Regional Financial Controller, Municipal Sales/Marketing Leader, SVP Marketing) to close significant contracts through negotiation, competitive pricing and proactive adherence to defined sales strategy. Collaborates with finance to periodically audit municipal billing records, franchise fees and house counts to ensure prices are correct and billed in accordance with contracts. Stays directly involved in complaint resolution as expressed by municipal staff and key officials. Participates actively in community events and activities where applicable to promote WastePro’s differentiable value (e.g., local civic associations, charitable organizations). Keeps management apprised of political activities and elections that may impact WastePro, region, and/or division. Monitors council/commission agendas for solid waste issues in relevant cities and counties. Prepares and submits timely monthly/progress reports and CRM data as required by management. Identifies and coordinates with SVP Marketing on opportunities for press coverage, collateral literature, advertising and sponsorship recommendations. Researches and stays current regarding competitor services. Acquires and monitors competitor municipal contracts and their status. Uses a standard format or sales automation tool to maintain status of sales activities. Office setting and outside sales.QUALIFICATIONS
BA/BS degree in business, marketing, or equivalent field. Related work experience may substitute education. 3–5 years of sales/marketing/business development experience within the waste services industry, with heavy emphasis on the municipal sales sector. 8+ years of sales experience, preferably selling to state and local governments. Demonstrated use of strategic and consultative selling skills. Outstanding negotiation, contract management, forecasting, and strategic planning skills. Broad expertise across the sales process: generation, customer interaction, presentation, client interaction, negotiation, account management, forecasting, pricing, and closure. Successful track record of developing win‑win partnerships in competitive settings. Superior written and oral communication skills with above‑average organization, interpersonal, listening, presentation, and problem‑solving skills. Professional demeanor and adaptability to changing situations. Basic understanding of sales automation technology used in supporting the sales process. Proficient in MS Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Experiences developing strategies to increase sales volumes, manage costs, and source opportunities through different channels. Knowledge of waste industry, competitors, and external forces influencing buying decisions. Well versed in problem solving, market research, financial/profitability analysis, pricing, and client relationship management. Organized and intellectually capable of eliminating sales obstacles through creative, adaptive approaches. Prepared for extensive travel within a defined regional territory. High degree of autonomy with strong teamwork and cross‑functional collaboration ability.OTHER JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
