Solid Waste Director

The Dougherty Solid Waste Department is hiring for a Solid Waste Director. The purpose of this position is to lead the Dougherty County Solid Waste Department; its budget, operations, environmental compliance, and the gas system.

This class formulates long-range goals for the organization, develop policy and position papers and negotiates with the chief administrative officer and/or elected officials.

Essential tasks include supervising, directing, training, and evaluating assigned staff; coordinating, assigning, and reviewing work; maintaining standards; monitoring work in progress; inspecting completed work assignments; answering questions; giving advice and direction as needed; approving and submitting environmental compliance reports; ensuring best practices are followed and landfill remains in compliance; maintaining compliance required for all Solid Waste Operations; planning, tracking, and implementing budget; managing the expenses and revenues of the department; directing the daily operations of the Solid Waste Department; recommending landfill projects to ensure the landfill remains profitable, safe, and in compliance with environmental regulations; and performing related work as assigned.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Public or Business Administration or related major; eight (8) years of public works, solid waste or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience; and Solid Waste Director/Manager experience a plus.
