Behavioral Health Counselor, Child and Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatry

Job Summary Counsel and advise children, adolescents and their families with behavioral health concerns including mood disorders, anxiety, school refusal, family conflict and trauma. May counsel individuals, families, or groups or engage in prevention programs. Provide support, training and education to mental/behavioral health care and case management staff as needed. Patient Care Requirement Yes Essential Functions Develop and execute group counseling sessions. Assist Therapists in the discharge process. Participate in staff meetings. Train new staff as needed. Provide individual counseling utilizing evidence‑based treatments. Understand and maintain the confidential nature of all client‑ and program‑related activities. Collaborate with IEP team members, including consultation IEP services. Evaluate children and adolescents for risk of harm to self or others and triggers to such. Education Master's Degree in a related field of study required. Licenses and Credentials Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW – MA) – preferred Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW – MA) – preferred Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MA) – preferred Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC – MA) – preferred Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC – MA) – preferred Experience Related experience 3–5 years required. Demonstrated experience working successfully with people of various backgrounds and lifestyles, engaging in ongoing self‑reflection and continual learning preferred. Negotiating, Advocating, and Navigating Systems Preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Demonstrates proficient clinical judgment and application of professional values and ethics. Integration of prior clinical experience into current practice. Demonstrates proficiency in formulating assessment of risks, crisis intervention, psychosocial assessments, treatment plans, and the documentation of both in a timely manner. Demonstrates proficient working knowledge of internal and external resources and refers appropriately. Ability to advocate, coordinate, and continuously communicate with treatment plans with patients, family, and the interdisciplinary team. Utilizes supervision and consultation regularly and appropriately. Engages in quality improvement projects, uses data to measure progress. Facilitates skill‑based groups. Demonstrates capacity to effectively communicate findings with a broader audience.
