Location(s): Can be based in Jacksonsville, Orlando, or Tampa-This role is onsite.

Salary:$140k-$180k/yr DOE

Position Overview
We are seeking a Litigation Associate with a strong insurance defense background to join our litigation team. The ideal candidate will manage a diverse caseload focused on auto, trucking, aviation, and product liability matters, handling all stages of litigation from discovery through trial. This role requires practical litigation skills, courtroom experience at hearings and trials, and the ability to prepare witnesses and take depositions. The Litigation Associate will work closely with partners, insurance carriers, and clients to develop defense strategies, draft pleadings and motions, and pursue favorable resolutions while meeting firm and client objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a litigation caseload in insurance defense matters, including auto, trucking, aviation, and product liability files.
  • Draft and respond to pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and settlement documents.
  • Prepare for and conduct depositions, prepare witnesses, and coordinate witness appearances.
  • Represent clients at hearings, pre-trial conferences, mediations, and trials; assist with jury selection and trial strategy.
  • Develop and execute defense strategies in collaboration with partners and insurance carriers.
  • Conduct legal research and draft legal memoranda and motion papers on complex issues.
  • Communicate regularly with clients, claims professionals, experts, and opposing counsel to manage expectations and case progress.
  • Prepare trial exhibits, demonstratives, and witness outlines; manage trial logistics and courtroom presentation.
  • Negotiate settlements and analyze exposure to advise clients on resolution options.
  • Supervise and mentor junior associates and paralegals; manage case budgets, deadlines, and document organization.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to the state bar in good standing.
  • 3+ years of civil litigation experience, with a strong preference for prior insurance defense work involving auto, trucking, aviation, or product liability claims.
  • Demonstrated trial and hearing experience, including participation in jury trials and bench hearings.
  • Proven experience taking and defending depositions and preparing witnesses for trial and hearing testimony.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills; ability to draft persuasive motions and briefs.
  • Familiarity with evidence rules, civil procedure, discovery practice, and case management in state and federal courts.
  • Experience working with insurance carriers and understanding of coverage and claims handling practices.
  • Ability to manage a high-volume caseload, prioritize tasks, and meet strict deadlines independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with clients, experts, opposing counsel, and court personnel.
  • Willingness to travel to courts, depositions, and client or expert locations as needed; valid driver's license.
