Android Engineer II (Healthcare)

Protecting our members’ data and ensuring our systems scale securely and reliably is core to this mission.The Healthcare team is responsible for building the mobile experiences that deliver personalized health insights and recommendations to WHOOP members. As an Android Engineer II on this team, you will develop native Android features that power health-focused experiences while contributing to the core systems that enable secure, reliable, and scalable product development.In this role, you will design and build Kotlin-based Android applications that integrate with backend services and APIs, collaborating closely with product, backend, and infrastructure teams to deliver seamless end-to-end experiences. You will help evolve shared Android frameworks and developer tooling, improve application performance and reliability, and build scalable, maintainable solutions using modern Android architecture and AI-assisted development workflows.RESPONSIBILITIES:Design, build, and maintain scalable Android features that integrate with WHOOP’s backend services and APIsCollaborate with backend, infrastructure, and product teams to ensure seamless and performant end-to-end systemsApply modern Android architecture patterns (e.g., MVVM, MVI) and modular design principles to support team scalabilityImprove developer enablement by enhancing shared Android libraries, frameworks, and build toolingMonitor app performance, debug complex issues, and optimize for speed, stability, and battery lifeWrite secure, well-tested code and participate in design and code reviews to maintain engineering excellenceDocument technical decisions, architecture, and design to promote alignment and knowledge sharingQUALIFICATIONS:2–4 years of professional Android development experienceProficiency in Kotlin (and Java when necessary), Android Jetpack libraries, and the Android development ecosystemStrong understanding of Android app structure, lifecycle, concurrency (Coroutines), and memory managementExperience integrating with RESTful APIs and backend servicesFamiliarity with modular architecture and scalable design systems (MVVM, MVI)Experience using Git and productivity tools like Jira, Confluence, and GitHubExposure to mobile CI/CD workflows, Gradle build configuration, and mobile release processesStrong commitment to embracing and leveraging AI tools in day-to-day tasks, ensuring AI-assisted work aligns with the same high-quality standards as personal contributions
