Clinical Therapist - Behavioral Health Clinician

The Behavioral Health Clinician is a Master's-level licensed or license-eligible therapist responsible for providing comprehensive mental health services, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and evidence-based therapeutic interventions. This role supports individuals experiencing a wide range of mental health conditions and may operate across multiple service lines, including outpatient therapy, crisis assessment and intervention, and specialized programming (e.g., Applied Behavior Analysis), depending on program assignment. The Clinician promotes recovery, symptom stabilization, and improved functioning through person-centered, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive care.

Responsibilities include providing individual, group, and family therapy utilizing evidence-based practices (e.g., CBT, DBT-informed approaches, trauma-informed care); conducting comprehensive biopsychosocial and psychiatric assessments, including suicide and risk evaluations; formulating DSM-5 diagnoses and assessing appropriate levels of care using standardized tools (e.g., LOCUS); developing, implementing, and regularly updating individualized, measurable treatment plans in collaboration with clients; monitoring client progress, adjusting interventions, and supporting achievement of clinical goals and outcomes; delivering crisis intervention, de-escalation, and stabilization services for individuals in acute distress; coordinating care and facilitating referrals to appropriate levels of care, including outpatient, intensive outpatient, residential, or inpatient services; providing psychoeducation to clients and families regarding mental health conditions, coping strategies, and recovery processes; delivering Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services, including behavior assessments and intervention planning, when applicable to program assignment; maintaining timely, accurate, and compliant clinical documentation in accordance with Rule 132, Medicaid, and other regulatory standards; ensuring adherence to ethical standards, confidentiality requirements (HIPAA), and professional scope of practice; collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, including psychiatrists, case managers, nurses, and external providers, to ensure coordinated and holistic care; participating in clinical supervision, case consultation, and team meetings to support quality care delivery; and engaging in ongoing professional development to maintain licensure and enhance clinical competencies.

Qualifications include a Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Applied Behavior Analysis, or a closely related behavioral health field required; licensed eligible therapist - LCSW, LCPC; strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and treatment planning skills; knowledge of DSM-5 criteria and level-of-care determination tools (e.g., LOCUS); proficiency in evidence-based therapeutic modalities; ability to manage crisis situations with sound clinical judgment and professionalism; strong interpersonal and engagement skills with diverse populations; effective collaboration and communication within multidisciplinary teams; high level of organization and attention to detail in documentation and compliance; cultural humility and commitment to equitable, person-centered care; experience providing psychotherapy to individuals with mental health disorders across diverse populations preferred; experience with crisis intervention, risk assessment, and higher levels of care coordination strongly preferred; experience working in community mental health or outpatient settings preferred; experience with evidence-based practices and documentation requirements (e.g., Medicaid/Rule 132) preferred.

Certifications and licensure include Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or license-eligible required; Illinois licensure (or ability to obtain) required; Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) designation required for crisis/assessment roles; Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification required for ABA-specific roles.

Physical requirements include the ability to conduct therapy sessions; ability to sit for extended periods while documenting services; ability to travel locally for home visits or meetings when required.

Employment conditions include a standard office environment: some offsite work required; moderate physical activity with occasional lifting of 15–25 pounds; minimal exposure to physical risk.

Occupational risk for exposure to TB: There is an occupational risk for exposure to TB, as this position involves extensive community and patient contact. Employees in this role are required to comply with annual TB testing as part of workplace health and safety protocols. The only acceptable exceptions to this requirement are documented medical contraindications or religious objections. Employees who decline TB testing will be required to wear a mask when deemed necessary.
