Job Overview

We are seeking an Instructional Designer I with 1–3 years of experience to develop and manage employee training programs for Consumers Energy and its subsidiaries.

This role involves working directly with business partners and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to identify training needs, design learning solutions, develop training materials, and implement training programs. The ideal candidate will have strong communication, organization, project coordination, and instructional design skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage training projects from initial request through design, development, and implementation.
• Develop eLearning courses and instructor-led/classroom training materials.
• Collaborate with business partners and SMEs to understand training requirements.
• Apply the ADDIE process: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation.
• Upload and implement training content within the Learning Management System (LMS).
• Lead biweekly meetings with business partners to review training needs and project progress.
• Track project timelines, deliverables, and deadlines.
• Build strong relationships with stakeholders and manage expectations.
• Identify project challenges and seek support from the instructional design team when needed.

Required Qualifications

• 1–3 years of experience in Instructional Design, Learning & Development, or Training Development.
• Basic understanding of the ADDIE instructional design process.
• Experience developing eLearning and instructor-led training materials.
• Strong communication, organizational, and project management skills.
• Ability to work directly with business partners and Subject Matter Experts.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple assignments.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with a team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS).
• Familiarity with eLearning authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline, Rise, or similar tools.
• Experience managing training projects from beginning to completion.
• Experience supporting corporate, industrial, plant, or field employee training.

Work Arrangement

• Fully remote position.
• Candidates residing in Michigan's Lower Peninsula are preferred.
• Very occasional travel to Flint or Ann Arbor, Michigan, for team meetings may be required.
• Must be available during standard business hours.

Ideal Candidate: A junior-level Instructional Designer with 1–4years of experience who can develop training content, coordinate projects, communicate with stakeholders, and manage training initiatives from start to finish
