Correctional OfficerThis position is responsible for the care, custody and control of incarcerated offenders committed to the Erie County Department of Corrections. This is inclusive of the main prison and the Community Corrections Center.Communicate with and manage inmates by orienting new commitments with rules, procedures and general information of the facilityEnforce all rules and regulations as well as sanctions for any violationsConduct cell inspections for contraband, damage and cleanlinessObserve, monitor and supervise offender movement, escort offenders in groups and restrict movement during scheduled counts and emergenciesMaintain key, tool and equipment control by inspecting, reporting, and taking inventoryMaintain health, safety and sanitation standardsCommunicate professionally with staff and offendersDocument incidents and write complete, concise and accurate reportsParticipate in all training coursesAbility to follow written and oral instructionsMinimum supervisory ability, use of good judgement and alertnessAbility to write accurate and concise reportsBasic computer knowledge to include familiarization with word processingMust be at least 18 years of ageHigh School Diploma or GEDMust have a Valid Driver's LicenseBachelor's Degree preferred.Successful completion of the following is required:1. Agility and basic skills test2. REACT skills test and Evaluation for Adult Correctional Facilities3. Psychological assessment4. Physical exam to include drug screen and interview.Must be at least 18 years of age, posses excellent health, and have the ability to rotate shifts at least quarterly.Applicants must also provide the following documents:1. Department of Corrections signed and witnessed Release of Information Form2. Copy of driver's license3. Copy of Social Security Card4.
