About the Position

Job Title: Stepdown/MedSurg RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours, weekends and holidays as scheduled Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience License: Valid RN license required Certifications: BLS Certification Must-Have: Ability to read telemetry strips Description: The position involves working in a Stepdown and MedSurg unit with a total of 32 beds. 12 of these beds are designated for Stepdown care while 20 are for MedSurg. The staff-to-patient ratio is 1:3 for Stepdown and 1:4 to 1:6 for MedSurg. Common diagnoses include chest pain, COPD, altered mental status, pneumonia, urinary tract infections, and abdominal pain. RNs are expected to titrate drips in the Stepdown unit. The unit is staffed with a charge nurse who is budgeted for the unit, and a House Supervisor is always available. Registered nurses must be able to read telemetry strips in conjunction with telemetry monitor technicians who continuously monitor the readings. RNs may be floated to any floor or Stepdown unit based on staffing needs. The dress code for the unit is royal blue scrubs. Shifts are from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM and include weekend and holiday requirements in accordance with the permanent staff schedule. The charting system used is EPIC.
