The position requires hands-on work with marine structures and mechanical systems in a demanding shipyard environment.

  • Lay out, cut, fit, and tack-weld steel plates, frames, and other structural components for ship construction and repair.
  • Install bulkheads, decks, foundations, brackets, and other structural elements on vessels and in shipyard facilities.
  • Use measuring tools such as levels, squares, plumb bobs, and tape measures to verify dimensions and ensure proper alignment.

  • Troubleshoot mechanical and marine systems to identify issues and support effective repairs.
  • Work safely in confined spaces, at heights, and in various ship compartments as required by the job.
  • Follow all shipyard safety procedures, including hot-work, fall protection, and confined-space protocols, to maintain a safe working environment.
Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience in marine and ship repair environments, including work with marine engines, motors, and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to perform valve repair, troubleshooting, and marine repair tasks.
  • Strong understanding of safety requirements in marine and shipyard environments, including hot-work, fall protection, and confined-space procedures.

  • Experience working in shipyards or on marine vessels, including submarines or similar platforms.
  • Comfort using a wide range of hand and power tools common to shipfitting and mechanical repair.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing precise, high-quality structural work.
