Shift Supervisor

Duties

• Serve as a Shift Supervisor who exercises direct supervision of the activities of a guard force shift consisting of subordinate Security Guards.
• Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
• Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
• Position may be designated as Mission Essential depending on location.
• Overtime may be required as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
• Incumbent must undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability.
• In accordance with Army Regulation (AR) 190-56, must meet the requirements of Individual Reliability Program.
• This is a drug testing designated position. Incumbent agrees to submit to a mandatory command directed urinalysis on a recurring basis.
• Incumbent is required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual Physical Agility Test (PAT) as outlined in AR 190-56.
• Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
• Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
• Incumbent must successfully complete and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and First Aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
• Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminals.
• Incumbent must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
• Incumbent must wear the prescribed Department of Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56; must maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
• The duties and training require for the employee to carry and deploy a riot baton, carry a protective shield and employ non-lethal ammunitions if necessary.
• Incumbent is required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
• Incumbent must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
• Incumbent must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
• Incumbent must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.

Qualifications

• Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes: 1) Leading personnel who perform security procedures with a federal, state, municipal, local, or private protective organization; 2) Making work assignments to ensure that guard coverage is provided to patrol areas; and 3) Utilizing security monitoring systems and/or access control system to authorize entry. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis.
• Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
