Job Description Summary MUSC’s Department of Emergency Medicine is looking for a PA or APRN to join its team of Advanced Practice Providers. Incumbent will provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive healthcare services for direct patient care in the Adult Emergency Departments in the Main University Hospital and Ashley River Tower, as delegated by the Emergency Medicine physician. Entity University Medical Associates (UMA) Only Employees and Financials Worker Type Employee Worker Sub-Type PRN Cost Center CC000977 COM Emergency Medicine CC Pay Rate Type Hourly Pay Grade Health-33 Scheduled Weekly Hours 8 Job Description Fair Labor Standards Act Status: Hourly/Non-Exempt Hours per week: PRN – shifts are based on staffing vacancies and availability of open shifts Scheduled Work Hours/Shift 10-hour shifts which could include weekdays, nights, weekends and holiday coverage PRN APPs are required to work a minimum of 1 shift per month (or 3 averaged per quarter), provided sufficient qualified shifts are posted or otherwise offered by the department Continued PRN status requires reasonable participation in filling available shifts The APP must maintain sufficient clinical activity to demonstrate continued competency in the assigned patient population, clinical setting, procedures, and privileges Patient Population Focus Emergency Department Management Patient Population Age Range 13 years-death Required Training: Required Minimum Training : Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed as a Physician Assistant or; Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed as an APRN as noted below. AGPNP/ANP (Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner or Adult Nurse Practitioner): Adult pts (13 years to death), stable chronic disease state management or primary care setting. FNP (Family Nurse Practitioner): (birth to death) Stable chronic disease state management, primary care across the lifespan. Preferred APRN Training AGACNP or ACNP (Adult Gerontology Acute Care NP/Acute Care Nurse Practitioner): Adult pts (13 years to death), acutely ill or injured, potentially unstable, or technologically dependent (vents, drips, monitors, etc.) FNP with current Emergency Room Nurse Practitioner (ENP) Certification AGPNP/ANP with current Emergency Room Nurse Practitioner (ENP) Certification Required Experience: Minimum of 1 year experience as a PA or APRN in an Emergency Department setting or completion of an Emergency Medicine Fellowship/Residency Degree of Supervision Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant will be assigned a Primary Supervising/Collaborating Physician employed by MUSC and will report directly to this physician. Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations All certifications must be current and complete prior to start date: Basic Life Support (BLS). Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) DHEC and DEA license applications must be started prior to first day. Preferred Licensure, Certifications, Registrations Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) as required by our Level I Trauma Center Job Duties Provides direct care to patients through the following activities: Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations Evaluates and treats on the basis of history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline Performs the following therapeutic procedures in accordance with procedural privileges, skill and proficiency as approved by the Clinical Division Chief: Administration of Local and Digital Anesthesia Complicated and Uncomplicated Repair of Lacerations Removal of Foreign Bodies from Eyes, Ears, Nose, Skin, and Wounds Trepanation of Subungual Hematomas Incision and Drainage of Abscesses Urethral Catheterization Placement of Peripheral Venous Access Placement of Central Lines [with proof of competency] Placement of Thoracostomy Endotracheal Intubation [with proof of competency] ACLS Arterial Puncture Venipuncture Lumbar Puncture [with proof of competency] Application of Splints Arthrocentesis Initiates referrals to other health care providers, and/or consults with the attending physician or the collaborating physician Documents and bills for direct care provided Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education Potential to precept students at MUSC enrolled as an advanced practice provider student; and facilitates the learning of other new team members APRN or PA must maintain licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, etc. as required by applicable policies and state law Physical Requirements Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs(+/-) unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force, lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs.
