Forklift / Clamp Truck Operator

This role operates clamp trucks and other forklifts in a large indoor and outdoor warehouse complex, safely handling large boxes and barrels of bulk tobacco. The position focuses on efficient material handling, accurate inventory tracking, and maintaining a clean, organized warehouse environment.

Responsibilities

• Operate clamp trucks and other forklifts to move large boxes and barrels of bulk tobacco throughout the warehouse complex.
• Stack containers of tobacco safely and efficiently to maximize space and maintain stability.
• Wrap and strap containers of tobacco to secure loads for storage and transport.
• Load and unload tractor trailers with containers of tobacco using appropriate material handling equipment.
• Use RF scanners to track inventory, record locations, and update quantities of product accurately.
• Monitor inventory levels and ensure product is stored in the correct locations within the warehouse.
• Maintain clean and sanitary warehouse conditions using brooms, blowers, and sweeper forklifts as needed.
• Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while operating forklifts and other equipment.
• Assist with general labor tasks related to material handling and warehouse operations.
• Collaborate with team members and leadership to support smooth, efficient warehouse workflows.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience operating forklifts, including clamp forklifts, stand-up forklifts, sit-down forklifts, and reach trucks.
• Hands-on experience operating clamp trucks to handle large containers and barrels.
• Proficiency using RF scanners for inventory tracking and location management.
• Strong material handling skills, including loading and unloading trucks and trailers.
• Ability to perform general labor tasks in a warehouse environment.
• Reliability and punctuality to consistently work the scheduled shift.
• Coachable attitude with a willingness to learn and follow established processes and safety procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working in large warehouse complexes or distribution centers.
• Knowledge in inventory control or warehouse inventory processes.
• Familiarity with stand-up reach trucks and other specialized material handling equipment.
• Comfort working in both indoor and outdoor, non-climate-controlled environments.
• Interest in long-term growth and development within a warehouse or logistics setting.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large warehouse complex consisting of 52 warehouses spread over approximately 90 acres. Work takes place in both indoor and outdoor areas in a non-climate-controlled environment, so conditions will vary with the weather and seasons. The position operates on a day shift schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. You will regularly use forklifts (including clamp trucks, stand-up and sit-down forklifts, and reach trucks), RF scanners, brooms, blowers, and sweeper forklifts as part of daily operations. The environment is active and fast-paced, with a strong emphasis on safety, cleanliness, and efficient material handling.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
