Psychologist – Correctional Services Grade: 22 Location: Patuxent Institution, Howard County (7555 Waterloo Road, Jessup, MD 20794) Position Overview The Psychologist – Correctional Services position is a doctorate-level licensed position in a maximum-security state prison. The main purpose of the role is to provide direct psychological services to incarcerated individuals in one or more programs, supporting remediation programs and services based on current best practices. Responsibilities Conduct risk assessments, diagnostic assessments, and other types of psychological assessments as assigned. Provide direct psychotherapeutic services to incarcerated individuals, including cognitive-behavioral group psychotherapy, individual therapy, and crisis intervention. Engage in research-related activities and supervise and train unlicensed members of the psychology staff. Provide administrative supervision of other professional and clerical employees. Minimum Qualifications Doctorate degree in psychology or a related field from an accredited institution accepted by the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists. Two years of experience rendering psychological services or engaged in psychological research. Licensure by the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists can substitute the required experience. U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Clinical Psychology classifications or Psychology specialty codes may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education. Licenses, Registrations & Certifications Applicants must be licensed by the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists prior to permanent appointment. Applicants may apply before obtaining the license; the application will be kept in pending status until the license is received. Special Requirements Fluent in spoken and written English. Ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with diverse populations, including individuals with varying beliefs, behaviors, and interpersonal styles in confinement or community settings. Professional working fluency in Spanish, Mandarin, Korean, or another language is a plus. Compliance with the selection standards set forth in the Code of Maryland Regulations for the Maryland Correctional Training Commission, including completion of a prescribed training program prior to permanent appointment.
