Position Overview

The Certified Medical Assistant will provide clinical, administrative, customer service, clerical, data entry, and basic bookkeeping support for PCPHSD clinic programs. The MA will assist professional staff with patient care, clinic setup, examinations, screenings, records, customer assistance, and daily clinic operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide customer service, clerical support, data entry, and basic bookkeeping functions for PCPHSD clinical programs.
• Provide information and assistance to clients.
• Assist customers with applications, government forms, and other documents.
• Explain PCPHSD policies and procedures to clients.
• Review applications and other documents for compliance with rules and regulations.
• Review and update files, distribute paperwork, and maintain records and filing systems.
• Answer incoming phone calls, direct callers to the appropriate person or work group, take messages, and relay information as needed.
• Perform cashier duties in accordance with standard office procedures and County policies.
• Receive and record payments, prepare and issue receipts, and balance daily work and monies received.
• Provide educational materials and personalized information to clients during pre-screening.
• Assist providers with patient care.
• Obtain vital signs, collect and document medical histories, and perform STI screenings and pregnancy tests under provider supervision.
• Assist clients in accessing healthcare and community service programs.
• Assist professional staff with clinic setup and patient examinations as directed.
• Enter patient information into PCPHSD, state, federal, and EHR systems as required.

Qualifications and Experience

• Current certificate of completion from a certified Medical Assistant training program.
• Prior experience working in the healthcare field.
• Experience with clinical front office support, patient intake, medical records, EHR documentation, and basic patient care support preferred.
• Ability to work within scope of authority and training and comply with PCPHSD policies.

Certification / Credentialing Requirements

• Medical Assistant training program certificate of completion.
• Current CPR certification.
• Hepatitis B and MMR immunization records.
• TB skin test, TB blood test, or chest X-ray from the last twelve months.
• Valid Arizona DPS fingerprint clearance card.
• Successful seven-year comprehensive criminal background check.

Clearance / Security Requirement

No formal security clearance is stated; however, the MA must comply with fingerprinting, background check, HIPAA, PHI, and confidentiality requirements.
