Registered Nurse Wound Care

Overview The position is for a Registered Nurse Wound Care in the Geriatrics & Extended Care Service for VA Long Beach Healthcare System located in Long Beach - California. Duties The Community Living Center (CLC) Wound Care Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing competent - evidence-based care to assigned patients and oversight of licensed vocational nurses/nursing assistants - as appropriate to the setting. Identifies and institutes preventive and treatment measures and monitors results of wound care delivered. Provide colleagues with useful tools to improve wound care knowledge - assessment - and management skills. The Wound Care RN will assist in directing the provision of nursing education - orientation - competencies and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization consultation. Analyzes resources available to staff and identifies risk areas - including quality metrics - supplies - equipment - availability of data and information to foster a safe and supportive environment for staff learning - educational and professional development. Provides evaluation of the effectiveness of resources - equipment - supplies - and specialty advanced therapies currently in use and being considered for future use for wound assessment and management (and may include ostomy and continence care). Evaluates practice in an ongoing process - based on best evidence. Provides peers with informal constructive feedback for improvement. Fosters a safe and supportive environment conducive to the professional development of healthcare professionals. Supports colleagues through wound care knowledge sharing to provide safe - quality nursing care. Shares educational findings - experiences - and ideas with peers. Questions about clinical practices for the purpose of providing evidence-based care. Participates in activities and strategies to sustain evidence-based-practice. The Wound Care RN has experience with the situations in which they are ultimately expected to perform - integrating theoretical concepts - strong critical thinking skills - and exhibits a robust technically skilled wound care practice. Preferred Experience: Recent professional RN experience providing geriatric - gerontology - palliative care - or care of older adults in settings such as Community Living Center - Rehabilitation Center or similar programs. Demonstrates the ability to improve the effectiveness of communication and interactions with others - to inspire cooperation and confidence to ensure safe and effective outcomes in the current practice setting. Leads teams - contributes to team conferences - and actively collaborates in all phases of patient care planning. Successfully integrates objectives - opportunities - and resources. Considers alternative courses of action. Respects the opinions - abilities - and contributions of others. Encourages individual growth and development. Effectively sets group goals and keeps self and team informed of the latest trends and developments. Inspires the cooperation and confidence of others. Demonstrates a high level of expertise. Experience working in an interdisciplinary team setting - collaborating with multiple disciplines (e.g. - medicine - social work - pharmacy - rehabilitation - mental health) to develop and implement patient-centered plans of care. Experience providing caregiver support - education - and coaching for families of Veterans with functional impairment - or multiple chronic conditions. Prior VA experience or familiarity with VA electronic health record (EHR) systems - consulting processes - and performance measures related to geriatrics and long-term services and supports and National certification in Wound Care (e.g. - WCC - WOCN) is highly desirable. Qualifications Basic Requirements: English Language Proficiency In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f) - no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: ACEN or CCNE OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program Upon achievement of a State license - temporary appointment with potential conversion to permanent after bridge program completion (Reference VA Handbook 5005 - Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing - possession of a current - full - active - and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing Credit for foreign nursing education higher than associate degree/entry level requires a formal degree equivalency validation Current - full - active - and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State - Territory or Commonwealth (including DC) Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) Exception: 120-day temporary appointment while pursuing licensure (may be extended up to two years) with grandfathering provisions for current VA staff Physical Requirements/Grade Determinations (Selected): Heavy Lifting, Straight Pulling, Pushing, Walking, Standing, Repeated bending (8 - 12 hours) Near and far vision requirements; color, depth perception; hearing; emotional/mental stability Keyboarding and computer use (8-12 hours intermittently) Educational and progression criteria for Nurse I-III levels as described in VA qualification standards #J-18808-Ljbffr
