Elementary Principal

District 87 is seeking an experienced, student-centered instructional leader who is excited about the opportunity to make a meaningful difference at Sheridan Elementary School. The successful candidate will be a visible, collaborative and consistent leader who builds strong relationships while maintaining high expectations for students and staff. We are looking for someone who understands instruction, MTSS, special education, student behavior and the unique needs of a diverse school community. The next principal should respect the strong systems already in place, bring people together and continue moving the school forward. Above all, we want a leader who will build authentic partnerships with families, advocate fiercely for students and staff and sees this principalship as an opportunity to make a lasting impact.

This is a 10-month position. The annual base salary for this position is established within the range of $75,375 - $94,121.62. Placement within this range will be determined based on the candidate's commensurate experience in a comparable position. In addition to the annual base salary, an optional compensation amount of $20,988 can be deferred to a 403(b) retirement plan, family medical insurance and/or be taken as taxable cash compensation. TRS, employee medical insurance and a life insurance benefit are Board-paid by District 87. Dental, vision, voluntary life, flexible spending and dependent care are available at the employee's expense. Employment beginning after the normal employment start date will be prorated based on the number of days worked. Qualifications

• Education: Masters Degree with a valid ISBE Professional Educator License (PEL) and licensure to serve as a school administrator
• 5 years of prior teaching preferred and 2 years of prior school administration experience preferred
• Knowledge of software programs, including the Google Suite
• Establish and maintain effective and courteous working relationships with those contacted in the course of work (students, parents and staff).
• Ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions.
• Ability to communicate to students, parents and staff in an acceptable/courteous manner.
• Must have strong organizational, time management, and conflict resolution skills.

Job Summary

• The Principal is the administrator and educational leader of the school and bears a responsibility for all matters that concern the school. The Principal is responsible for administering and supervising the operation and the work of the school in all of its phases. The Principal is responsible for activities and problems that relate to the teachers, students, and educational programs, supplies, and equipment, which affect the school in his/her sphere of activity. The Principal is concerned with the improvement of instruction through proper leadership in the areas of administration and supervision. A majority of the time spent by a principal shall be spent on curriculum and staff development through both formal and informal activities, establishing clear lines of communication regarding school goals, accomplishments, practices and policies with parents and teachers.
• Under broad supervision, this position supervises full-time and part-time building staff and if assigned, an Assistant Principal. Staff assigned may include teachers, psychologists, social workers, school counselors, nurses, paraprofessionals and lunchroom supervisors. The Principal is also indirectly responsible for school nutrition staff and custodians.
