Production Operator

The Production Operator sets up, operates, and supports a variety of equipment in a steel manufacturing environment, including overhead cranes, furnaces, and production machines. This role focuses on safely moving materials, running and monitoring machinery, assisting with annealing operations, and supporting shipping, packaging, and general facility upkeep. Operators work across different areas of the plant based on skill and production needs and play a key part in maintaining continuous operations through basic troubleshooting and close collaboration with maintenance teams.

Responsibilities:

• Operate overhead cranes to safely load and unload trucks, move steel coils, load furnaces, and transfer materials between machines and work areas.
• Support annealing operations by setting up equipment, loading and unloading furnaces, and assisting with truck loading and unloading as needed.
• Assist other areas of the facility while annealing runs are in progress, which can last up to two days, to ensure smooth and efficient plant operations.
• Operate a variety of production machines across the facility, being assigned to equipment where skills and experience are best suited.
• Use forklifts to transport materials to storage locations, production work areas, and shipping zones in a safe and efficient manner.
• Retrieve steel samples for the laboratory and verify them against work orders to support quality control processes.
• Perform routine cleaning and housekeeping around machinery and workstations to maintain a safe and organized environment.
• Use banding equipment to package finished materials securely for storage or shipment.
• Monitor machines during operation, perform first-line troubleshooting when issues arise, and clearly communicate problems to maintenance personnel when additional support is required.
• Maintain and adjust machine controls on multiple types of equipment to meet production specifications and quality standards.
• Read and interpret basic production documentation, such as work orders and blueprints, to ensure correct setup and processing of materials.
• Use measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, micrometers, and related devices to verify product dimensions and quality.
• Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of steel toe footwear and other required personal protective equipment.
• Support overtime and schedule flexibility needs, including arriving early, staying late, and working some weekends based on production demands.

Job Type & Location:

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ottawa, OH.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.
