Job Description
The Sheet Metal Mechanic oversees the installation of ductwork and related HVAC sheet metal systems on a large construction site. This role leads field installation activities for square and spiral ductwork, roof top fans, exhaust systems, and associated sheet metal components, ensuring work is completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with blueprints and project specifications.
Responsibilities

• Install and oversee the installation of square and spiral ductwork, roof top fans, exhaust fans, and other HVAC sheet metal components.
• Interpret and work from construction blueprints and cut sheets to plan and execute duct layouts, fabrication requirements, and installation sequences.
• Coordinate HVAC installation tasks, including ductwork routing, supports, and connections, to ensure proper system function and compliance with project specifications.
• Perform and oversee sheet metal fabrication and installation, including measuring, cutting, and fitting materials for ducts and related components.
• Ensure all work complies with safety regulations and site requirements, including the use of full PPE and adherence to OSHA and site safety standards.
• Collaborate with construction teams and other trades on-site to sequence work efficiently and resolve installation or coordination issues.
• Inspect completed work for quality, accuracy, and alignment with blueprints, making adjustments or corrections as needed.
• Maintain organized work areas and manage tools, materials, and equipment required for sheet metal and duct installation.
• Provide guidance, direction, and support to sheet metal and HVAC mechanics, helping to train less experienced team members as needed.

Essential Skills

• 5-10 years of experience in sheet metal, ductwork, and HVAC installation in a construction environment.
• Strong hands-on experience with duct installation, including square and spiral ductwork and exhaust duct systems.
• Proficiency in sheet metal installation and fabrication, including cutting, fitting, and assembling duct components.
• Ability to read, interpret, and work from construction blueprints and cut sheets accurately.
• Experience installing roof top fans, exhaust fans, and associated ductwork and sheet metal components.
• Solid understanding of HVAC installation practices, including duct routing and system integration.
• OSHA 30 certification.
• SST 10 certification.
• Ability to lead and coordinate field installation work, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency.
• Strong knowledge of construction site safety requirements and proper use of full PPE.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working on large tower or multi-story construction projects.
• Comfort working in an active construction environment with multiple trades present.
• Ability to troubleshoot installation issues and adapt plans based on site conditions.
• Strong communication skills for coordinating with site supervisors and team members.
• Attention to detail to ensure accurate fabrication and installation aligned with blueprints.

Work Environment
This role is based at a construction site in the Mineola area, working on a large south tower that is still under construction. The typical start time is 6:00 a.m., and you must arrive with full PPE and all required safety certifications. You will work in an active construction environment, coordinating with other trades and operating in a setting that involves heights, noise, and ongoing building activities. The work is hands-on and physically demanding, focusing on field installation of ductwork, roof top fans, exhaust systems, and sheet metal components within a major construction project.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Mineola, NY.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $43.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
