Maintenance Fabricator

The Maintenance fabricator designs, repairs, installs, and maintains machinery, equipment, physical structures, and pipe and electrical systems in commercial or industrial establishments, following specifications, blueprints, manuals, and schematic drawings, using hand tools, power tools, hoist, crane, and measuring and testing instruments. They can work in commercial, industrial, or residential spaces, performing maintenance duties themselves, or contracting service providers. They also carry out preventative maintenance.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

• Inspecting and testing machinery and equipment, using electrical and electronic test equipment.
• Listening for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction, and discussing machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or repair machine.
• Dismantling defective machines and equipment and installing new or repaired parts, following specifications and blueprints, using precision measuring instruments and hand tools.
• Cleaning and lubricating shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery, using rags, brushes, and grease gun.
• Repairing and maintaining physical structure of establishment.
• Operating cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.
• Fabricating and repairing counters, benches, partitions, and other wooden structures.
• Assessing procedures and making recommendations for improvement.

Minimum qualifications include:

• High school diploma.
• Relevant licenses and certificates may be required.
• Courses in mechanical drawing, woodworking, electricity, and blueprint reading, would be advantageous.
• Repair work experience.
• Physical strength and good hand-eye coordination.
• Excellent customer service and negotiation skills.
