We are hiring 1 full time position for the following location: Options Secondary . (Unique Program Requirements) Options Secondary and the NOVA Programs serves alternative learners, at-risk, expelled youth, and students needing a bit more support in grades 6-12. In addition to a rigorous academic curriculum, both Options and the NOVA Program employ a strong social-emotional component designed to meet the needs of each student. Hourly Base Pay: $26.51 - Pay for the 10 months is spread out over the 12 months in a year. Additional compensation is based on relevant experience. Days of the week: These positions are primarily Monday - Friday. Shift Hours: The work schedule is 7:30 am - 3:30 pm. Vacation Time: N/A Benefits: Yes Sick Time: One 8 hour day per month for 10 months (80 hours annually). Personal Days: 2 - 8 hour Personal Days (16 hours annually). Position Purpose As a school based District Officer, the primary objective is to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of students, staff, and visitors within your assigned school. This role involves implementing and enforcing policies and procedures related to school safety, emergency preparedness, and crisis response. The school based District Security Officer collaborates with school administrators, local law enforcement, and community stakeholders to create a secure and nurturing environment conducive to effective learning. Additionally, the position entails fostering positive relationships with students and assisting to resolve conflict. The school based District Security Officer serves as a visible and approachable presence, promoting a sense of trust and community while proactively addressing any security concerns that may arise. Overall, the incumbent is dedicated to promoting a safe and supportive educational environment that contributes to the holistic development of all individuals within the school community. Essential Duties Provides the monitoring of all of the district's surveillance security cameras. Monitors and interacts with the district's unified security, communication, mass notification, and all hazard monitoring/alert systems. Responds to and dispatches appropriate responders to events and incidents that are detected throughout the school. Performs mobile and foot patrols of district property interior/exterior to team standards; is aware of and able to communicate via mobile radio or cell phone to others about all security instructions and district emergency planning procedures; respond to incidents as a 1st responder and assist other 1st responders in emergencies; responds to emergencies and assists other responders in a professional manner. Interacts with staff, students and the public in a professional manner to include properly de-escalating difficult situations; works under potentially hostile and stressful situations. Logs all incident reports, building access/secures and other assigned reports to standards. Provides light maintenance and service checks on card readers, change batteries, motion detectors, security cameras and other assigned equipment as directed by the Assistant Director of Security. Conducts and documents at least one camera audit per day. Information from the audit must be logged in the appropriate google sheet. Emails may be required to the appropriate District Security staff to complete a repair. Conducts daily building audits with the Ready Op form. Serious damage should be reported immediately to your direct Supervisor and the local School Liaison. Conduct regular patrols of the school campus to deter and detect any suspicious activities or safety hazards. Respond promptly to any security incidents or emergencies that occur on campus, including fights, disturbances, medical emergencies or criminal activity in conjunction with the School Resource Officer Enforce school rules and regulations, including dress code policies, visitor procedures and behavioral expectations. Investigate incidents of misconduct, vandalism, theft, or other violations of school policies or procedures. Collaborate with the School Resource Officer and/or Law Enforcement staff when necessary including reporting incidents. Assist with the development and implementation of emergency response plans and procedures, including participating in drills and exercises. Collaborate with school administrators, counselors and other staff members to address security concerns and implement proactive measures to enhance campus security. Ensure all safety equipment such as locks, alarms and communication devices are being properly maintained and functioning effectively. Be visible and approachable to students and staff members to promote a sense of security and trust within the school community. Other Duties Consistent Schedules: Efforts will be made to maintain consistent employee schedules; however, due to the limited number of school based District Security Officers, occasional schedule adjustments may be necessary. Versatile Shifts: All District Security Officers are expected to be proficient in working between 7:00 am – 7:00 pm, displaying flexibility to contribute effectively across various time frames. Schedule Changes: Recognizing the dynamic nature of our operations, District Security Officers must be aware that their schedules could be subject to change based on factors such as staff illness, staff training, and staff vacations or based on a management decision. Overtime Considerations: Shift adjustments may occur with the goal of minimizing overtime within the department. Flexibility in accepting changes is crucial to promoting efficient use of resources. Continuous Operations: School Based District Security Officers must understand the necessity of someone covering each shift, particularly during holidays, to ensure uninterrupted security coverage and the safety of the school community. Cross Training: This will be cross-trained at a variety of school to ensure a balanced workload. Job Qualifications - Education/Certification Must have a high school degree or equivalent. Some criminal justice or human services college level coursework desirable but not required. Must obtain CPI certification within six months of employment. Required to maintain current First Aid/CPR/AED certification during course of employments in this position. Criminal background check required for hire. Required to have 6-8 hours annual training. Experience At least 3 years of experience in security system monitoring and physical security is preferred.
