Assistant Wrestling Coach

Assistant Coach – Wrestling Nottoway County High School, Crewe, Virginia Position Overview The Assistant Coach is responsible for providing leadership, supervision, character development, and coaching instruction for the wrestling program. Responsibilities Foster, develop, and display the highest level of sportsmanship among coaches, athletes, spectators, and officials. Obtain CPR, First‑Aid, Child‑Abuse, and Concussion Certifications within one year. Ensure the safety and well‑being of all participants through supervision and detailed practice schedules. Assist the head coach in developing and managing an evaluation process to select team members through try‑outs. Provide guidance and support for varsity and middle‑school wrestling programs, including monitoring progress. Communicate effectively with the team, staff, parents, administration, community, and media. Attend required coaches meetings scheduled by the athletic director. Attend preseason parent meeting. Effectively communicate student‑athlete handbook and team‑specific rules and regulations to students and parents. Maintain proper records, including VHSL physical forms and team information. Develop and manage a system of issuing equipment, maintain inventory, and store equipment. Promote proper use and care of equipment and school property. Assist the athletic director in preparing eligibility forms. Maintain compliance with Nottoway County Public Schools and Virginia High School League rules, regulations, and policies. Encourage community partnerships that enhance interscholastic activities. Set up, organize, and remove equipment for practices and games, ensuring safety, functionality, and efficiency. Minimum Qualifications Valid collegiate professional license. Minimum of three years of experience working within a school system and/or volleyball coaching or related extracurricular activities. Demonstrated leadership skills and knowledge of wrestling rules and regulations. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Effective oral and written communication. Ability to exercise self‑control and perseverance when dealing with students, parents, staff, administration, and community members. Demonstrates professionalism and contributes to a positive environment. Skillfully manages individual and group interactions. Completes paperwork in a timely manner. Maintains strong attendance and punctuality. Willingness to pursue ongoing professional development. Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, bend, stoop, reach overhead, and lift up to 25 pounds. Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments under a variety of weather conditions. Visual and auditory ability to interact with students, staff, and the public both in‑person and via technology. Employment Requirements Must be at least 18 years of age. Possession of a valid driver’s license. Submission of two professional references, including one from a current or former supervisor.
