Location
The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work on-site several days per week and remotely within the state of Colorado.
This position primarily works on-site at the Denver Post Building (101 West Colfax Avenue, Denver) or other DPR facilities three days per week, with remote work on two days per week. On in-office days, site visits may be required.

The Planning, Design, and Construction Division is seeking a Senior Parks Facilities Project Manager to lead the delivery of complex design and construction projects across DPR’s facilities portfolio. This role manages projects from inception through completion and provides technical expertise on building-centered capital work.
As a Senior Parks Facilities Project Manager, you will act on:
Project Management:Assume a leadership role in the development, coordination and implementation of a wide variety of moderate to complex design and construction projects.
Provide project management for DPR’s facilities (buildings and building-related) program, including planning, design and construction, monitoring and reporting on project progress
Direct and evaluate work of engineers, architects, landscape architects, and on‑call project managers
Perform project management work on complex, multifaceted municipal facilities projects including procuring and managing consultants and contractors for design and construction projects, developing project and design specifications, and coordinating activities with other city departments, elected officials, community and neighborhood groups, and other stakeholders
Prepare pre-bid materials and define scopes of work
Use alternative procurement and project delivery methods effectively
Manage project scope, schedule, and budget; facilitate stakeholder engagement; and oversee bidding, contracting, and construction
Report on project progress and proactively identify challenges and solutions
Planning and Design:
Advance the mission, vision, and values of the Parks and Recreation Department through coordination of ongoing planning and design efforts for a variety of urban, suburban, mountain parks, including , facilities, infrastructure, and park access throughout the Denver Parks system
Assist in managing the facilities budget and tracking annual goals
Maintain asset condition databases and collaborate with facilities staff
Research and prepare grants and funding proposals
Represent DPR Planning in Facilities group meetings
Design Standards and Best Practices:
Promote and apply DPR design and construction standards
Assist in updating departmental planning, engineering, and architectural standards. Monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of program delivery methods and procedures, and recommend policy/procedure revisions
Ensure projects meet DPR and DOTI standards
Stay current on facility design trends, best practices, sustainability measures, and ADA compliance
Develop and maintain standards for electrical, mechanical, aquatics, and safety systems
Apply rigorous quality control through all phases of project delivery
Advance equity and inclusivity in all facility design work
Communication & Production:
Coordinate with the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) and oversee facility work executed by DOTI’s Project Management team
Collaborate across DPR divisions (Recreation, Forestry, Operations, Permitting) and other agencies
Coordinate the work of multi-disciplinary teams engaged in the design and construction of facility architectural/capital improvement projects, review plans and specifications for compliance to standards and practices, perform on-site inspections during construction to determine work progress and conformance to established bid specifications/contracts, and provide technical support in solving problems
Support consultant and contractor selection processes
Facilitate consensus-building among stakeholders with differing priorities
Build positive relationships with community members, partner organizations, and city leadership, balancing a variety of interests to successfully complete projects
Produce in‑house design documents, graphics, and specifications when needed
Performs other related duties as assigned.
What You’ll Bring
We are looking for an accomplished professional with a passion for parks, recreation, and open space projects that positively impact communities. Our ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge of best practices for planning, design and construction, alongside demonstrated communication and collaboration skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team under time-constrained and highly visible situations. We are looking for someone with good writing skills, particularly in scope of work documents and contracts, public communications, and correspondence. Our ideal candidate is an enthusiastic leader, a resourceful problem solver, a proactive decision-maker, and a collaborative team player.
Ideal qualifications:
5+ years of project management experience with vertical design and construction projects
Master’s degree in Planning, Architecture, Engineering, Project Management, or related field (preferred)
PE, Architect, CSI, or PMP certifications (preferred)
Experience leading large, complex facilities projects
Experience with diverse stakeholders and public engagement
Working knowledge of MEP systems, architecture, and interior design
Experience with aquatic facility design and safety codes
Strong financial management skills for multi‑funded projects
Knowledge of LEED, sustainability best practices, and Denver green energy requirements
Strong verbal and written communication and documentation skills
Flexibility and adaptability in a changing environment
Spanish bilingual skills preferred
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam Revu, and AutoCAD
Required Minimum Qualifications
Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Project Management, Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Landscape Architecture or a related field.
Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of professional project management experience in the related occupational group including planning, managing, and scheduling projects and preparing and reviewing contract documents.
Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
Licensure/Certifications: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
