Position Overview

This role is designed to deliver technical support and patient care tailored to the needs of individuals in designated areas. Responsibilities include the collection and analysis of laboratory specimens, along with reporting results in accordance with established laboratory protocols and procedures. The position also involves acting as a general supervisor for assigned laboratory activities.

Essential Job Functions

• Conducts tasks, duties, and complex tests across all assigned laboratory areas, adhering to established protocols to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, COLA accreditation standards, and hospital policies.
• Collects and processes specimens using established protocols and technical expertise.
• Performs quality control, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure the proper functioning of instruments and procedures.
• Validates and communicates test results, assisting with technical troubleshooting and quality assurance issues.
• Adheres to safety protocols, including biohazard management, exposure control plans, infection control measures, and maintains necessary documentation for regulatory compliance.
• Assists in conducting proficiency testing for each test, implementing corrective actions as needed.
• Encourages collaboration among clinical departments and affiliated services to ensure a coordinated approach to laboratory services and resolution of customer concerns.
• Coordinates and executes all pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic laboratory activities in partnership with the Laboratory Director and Technical Consultant.
• Provides patient care and other activities within the scope of state regulations, which may include phlebotomy, IV starts, EKG initiation, vital signs, height and weight measurements, intake and output monitoring, pulse oximetry, and basic wound care.
• Ensures patient safety in relation to age and condition.
• Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
• Ensures a clean and safe environment, performing proper aseptic techniques, isolation procedures, and infection control measures.
• Assists with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.

Other Job Functions

• Prepares patients and provides support during examinations or procedures, or assists with other treatments.
• Keeps the laboratory and patient care areas stocked with necessary supplies.
• Assists with patient restraints and maintains precautions; collects, reports, and documents data related to patient needs and unusual behaviors.
• Travels to various facility locations as required.
• Participates in staff meetings or other mandatory company meetings as needed.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Biological/Physical Sciences or Medical Laboratory Science is required.
• Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required.
• Market-Specific Qualifications:
• Pennsylvania Market: Minimum of 6 years of core lab experience is required (experience begins with Medical Laboratory Courses).
• Las Vegas Market:
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist (MLS/MLT) from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technology (AMT).
  • Valid State of Nevada license as a Laboratory General Supervisor, or the ability to obtain this license within 6 months of hire.
  • At least 3 years of lab experience in non-waived specialties of a clinical laboratory; 2 of these years must be in a licensed laboratory or a hospital, university, or health department under the supervision of a director with a doctoral degree.
• Experience with IV starts, phlebotomy, and EKG initiation is a plus (not required; training will be provided after hire).
