Nursing Station Clerk/NSC Trainee Pediatric Hematology/Oncology- Part Time Day Shift

Position Summary Nursing Station Clerks 1 are assigned to either inpatient or outpatient units where there is daily contact with patients. They greet visitors and direct them to appropriate locations; answer telephones; perform data entry activities; maintain daily and clinical logs; prepare, update, and maintain patient charts and files; fill out medication tickets and pharmacy requisitions; mail patient letters; and deliver supplies and records to an assigned unit. Responsibilities Orient patients and/or families to the unit, providing general information regarding the room, unit, and hospital and serve as a contact person to patients and families. Give information on patient condition within existing policies, and direct visitors to the appropriate locations. Process physicians' orders by recording written orders in charts, kardex, flag sheets, or directly into a computer file after review by a Registered Nurse; and by filling out medication tickets and pharmacy requisitions. Receive new admissions. Prepare and maintain patient charts, daily log, and clinic log. Qualifications Eligible List Appointment: candidates must be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for Nursing Station Clerk 1. Provisional Appointment: requires one year of full‑time clerical, secretarial, or patient care experience in a health‑care setting and an examination when offered. 55b/c Appointment: eligible for 55b/c designation and subject to verification of applicant eligibility. Section 70.1 Transfer: requires one year of permanent competitive service in a title approved for transfer. Pre‑employment requirements: physical examination with medical clearance, electronic reference check, 4‑panel drug screen, regulatory screenings, and required New York State license(s)/certificate(s). Compensation and Benefits Salary range: $36,232 – $38,235 per year (pro‑rated by part‑time hours). Additional benefits include generous leave, health plans, and a state pension.
